Camera Problem My Kodak EasyShare LS443 was working perfectly, but suddenly the viewing screen has gone black. When I take a picture, it comes out black just like the screen. I have changed the battery and memory card, but still have the problem.

LS443- E45 error on my ls443- 2nd time- Last time I sent it back I paid $150 to fix and camera wasn't even a year and a half old- They put on a new "mode dial" and I guess fixed the lens retractor- The Kodak I had b4 that also did the same thing. Folks, do yourselves a favor, throw the thing away(recycle the battery) and BUY a CANON

    NO MORE KODAK'S!!!!!

I have been reading a lot of posts from people with similar problems. Apparently, when people try to fix this camera, they are told that the parts are no longer carried and are told to buy or upgrade to a new camera. I am interested in hearing more experiences from people on this camera. I work for a consumer rights law firm and we are investigating this. You can contact me at [email protected] Thanks, Abby

If it was bought at Best Buy and you have the receipt, you can take it to them for a free cleaning for life, if that is, it's just a stuck shutter.

My Kodak Easyshare LS443 is taking black pictures

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help:

i have the same camera Kodak LS443. Min. cost to repair starts at $175.00 there is a chip that is faulty. Problem is you cannot just replace the chip other parts are involved. Kodak is aware of this problem but they will not recall this camera, if you send it to them for repair it will cost you much much more. On Ebay last week there were alot of these LS443 cameras guess what !! all were been sold for parts they almost all had the same problem no pic in the viewer just black, I really loved this camera but will never buy a kodak again, there very hard to repair. sometimes not even repairable.

Pictures are black

If you can display pictures in playback mode but screen is black in capture mode then the CCD sensor has stopped working and needs replacing.

Lcd display is black

Forget fixing this camera unless your willing to pay big bucks, I have the same problem, checked it with a great camera repair man min. cost to repair is $175.00, this is a very big problem with the Kodak LS443, these camera's should have been recalled. Kodak is aware of this problem but will not stand behind there product. There is a chip that has gone bad problem is the chip is just a small part of the camera that has to be replaced, these camera's are not easily repairable. I loved this camera, but I will never buy another Kodak again. Don't send it to Kodak they will charge you more then a local camera shop.
