How To Import Individual WinFAX files? .FXR and .FXD
I have Win Fax 10.03 and recently, it sort of crashed and I had to re-install the software.
My data folder (containing the .FXD - sent faxes - and .FXR - received faxes - and .CVR - cover pages) was intact, although I did not get the chance to run the backup program inside of WinFax.
After a lot of hassle, I managed to get WinFax PRO re-installed.
But although I have set the location of the Data folder as my old Data folder, WinFax refuses to show me a list of my faxes.. I tried the import instructions but although it pretends to import Status.WFB, only 2 faxes, received after installation, is shown.. I've already tried rebuilding and optimizing the logs and it says that they are OK.
Is there a way to re-create the Status file or import the individual faxes into WinFax? Even the address book won't import!
Thanks.

Goto "Start" in windows select "RUN" type in "MSCONFIG" press ENTER, Select "STARTUP" tab uncheck the winfax then select apply then OK. Now restart your PC, u should not get this problem now.
That's not the way to backup your logs. You copied only the fax images, and not the logs to go with them. This is a common error that is made quite often. Unless you have the original log structure, your data (logs) that link to the actual fax images (fxds, fxrs, etc.) are lost.
click on Start > all programs >accessories> System tools> System restore.
When restore window comes up select "restore my system to previos state" after thet select 3 day before date it's looking "dark" select and click restore.
As far as i know, win fax is not compatible with Vista.
Its better to uninstall the program.
Also if you want to install the software my recommendation is :
After weeks of investigation I found a software that does the same & more functions than the win fax so i downloaded the free version of Active-Fax.
Especially if you have ISDN modem, as I do, this software is far better.
You can download it rom the link below :
http://www.actfax.com/en/download.html
First you try with this key :
The license for one user is free and the key to enter during installation is 10025-49480
To start the installation of ActFax, run the setup program from the download area (file actfax_setup_en.exe).
When running the installation from a CD-ROM, the setup is automatically started when you insert the CD.
To install the trial version of ActFax, enter the license key 00000-00000 in the setup.
The trial version has no limitations and all functions are available (a small demoversion watermark is printed at the end of each fax page in that case then).
And the best of everything is that when you customize the software and you want to keep the settings in case you want to format your drive or install it on another computer, you copy all files of C:\Program Files\ActiveFax to the same location in your new computer and reinstall.
You can't unless you have the original Send and Receive Logs to go with the FXR and FXD (and also CVR, IND, FXS files etc.) http://www.getfaxing.com/support.htm
Try installing winfax from safe mode. I was having the same problem and this worked for me. However, when you install from safe mode, you will get error messages staing that the printer driver can not be installed. Do not worry about this, as you can install the printer drivers manually. Now, when you do the install, halfway thru, you will need to restart your computer. If you restart and the install does not finish by itself, go to program files, look for the winfax folder, open it and you will see another winfax folder. Open that, and first click the file INSPRINT.exe. This will manually install the print drivers. Second, click WNTSETUP, this will continue the install process.
Installing fax software can be tricky, particularly if you want to import phone-book listings from an existing database or PIM, such as Microsoft Outlook. But WinFax Pro proves easy to configure. A series of introductory screens walks you through installation; you just click Next to accept the default configuration. In our tests, WinFax Pro accurately detected our fax modem and seamlessly imported our contacts from Microsoft Outlook. By comparison, competing fax programs either don't import directly from Outlook or make the process trickier than it needs to be. you can try to look on website and there will explain to you. http://reviews.cnet.com/e-mail/winfax-pro-10-0/4505-3536_7-1536745.html
This is a solution that was suggested for an earlier edition of the Winfax Pro, but there is no reason why it shouldn?t work on this one as well:
1. Close Winfax and any other program that has anything to do with it, delete all the temp files that yo don?t need.
2. Run Scandisk and fix any problems that may come up.
3. Run delfix.exe which is located in the winfax folder in the status files.
4. Run delfix-rebuild and delfix-optimize and check if the problem is solved.
If the problem reoccurs there is another possibility- to change the name of the WinFax\data folder and create a new one which you will transfer the address book file, status files etc. from the old folder. Note that there might be some information that wouldn?t go through.
