My daughter's computer was running well, When she turned it off. When she started it up again she received a message system failure, immediately backup files, then a ticking noise started and the screen went blank and she has not been able to get back into the computer again. She has tried pushing F10 but it does no good, she cannot get back into the recovery mode. Any suggestions? Is this a hard drive failure? Thanks
Yes, the ticking sound is the platelettes or the head trying to park, you may be lucky, if you press F8 on start up and try to get into safe mode, if so select 'last known good configuration' and press enter and if you get runnong back up important documents to cd. You may have to replace the hard drive if no luck with the boot up, but you may be able to rescue some files if when you replace the hard disk use your faulty one as a slsve drive and see if you can copy over your needed documents, good luck

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, it is too late to save the hard drive. So will have to buy a new one for her. We may be able to save some info using your suggestion though. Thanks again..
