I have replaced the batteries with new standard AA batteries that do operate another Fujifilm camera and still, nothing. I can view photos already taken and stored in the memory chip but in the picture taking mode, set on Auto (or any other), the LCD screen and everything else just shuts down.

Not sure if my last post went through. I have the same problem. Tried new batteries that power another Fujifilm camera just fine. I can view photos already taken that are stored in the memory chip but when I turn the camera to picture taking modes, it goes dark - everything shuts off.

If the batteries did leak out, then you could clean the battery contacts with contact cleaner and a pencil eraser. Providing the contacts are intact, you might get it going again with new normal AA batteries.

If the camera won't turn on, check the batteries, or connect the camera to an AC adapter. If that doesn't work, remove all batteries, disconnect the AC adapter, wait a minute, reinsert batteries and reconnect the adapter.
If the flash doesn't work, the camera won't take pictures, or the screen keeps turning off, check that the batteries are strong.

Hi
I have got an S5000 that I can still view previously taken pictures from the card, but when trying to take pictures the screen and view finder shows a peculiar distorted purple and green picture and any picture taken is just a green blur.
I contacted Fuji and they say they can repair it for £90 (about $120)

Fuji s5000

Above the screen display on the back of the camera are two small buttons. The left one is blue and the right one is marked EVF/LCD.

Push the right side button to change from the viewfinder to the screen.
