Question about Sony VAIO VGN-S460 Notebook

2 Answers

VAIO VGN-S460 I just bought a new port replicator for my laptop after fighting for sometime with plugging and unplugging all my connections. Everything worked fine except that my Vaio doesn't feel the power supply. The green light is on on my new replicator. Mouse is working fine, USBs are working fine. The only problem is that my bettery is being uncharged and doesn't feel any incoming electriciy.

My notebook computer will not turn on. The the indicator light on the original power cord would not light, so I purchased a new cord. The new cord worked for a couple of months, but shorted out complete with sparks and smoke from the connection with the adapter. My original battery had a short life, so I purchased a replacement battery that never charged. Once the original battery drained after the power cord shortage, I have no power. I suspect there is a general electral problem that goes beyond the battery or power cord. Is that right?

How to Boot Sony Vaio VGN-S460 Laptop without CD/DVD ROM and With bootable USB

If the BIOS does not have the USB as one of the boot options then you cannot boot up with an USB memory stick.
In this case you need to replace the CD/DVD drive with a new one.

There is a slot at vgn-s460 back side and i dont know for what

Hi Sohail!

The slot located at the back of the Notebook is a DC-in port and a Battery Connector wherein you can connect the AC Adaptor and a Battery pack respectively. The port located on the extreme left on the back of the Computer with the Computer bottom facing downward is the DC-in jack and the other on the extreme right is the Battery connector.
I'd forward you the link where you can download the user guide for the Computer model series to locate all other ports and controls on the Notebook.

http://www.docs.sony.com/release/VGNS400-T300series.pdf

Please refer to the page # 19 of 200 to locate the ports available on the back of the Notebook.

Bye, take care.
Rahul.

I need steps to replace Fan for my Sony VAIO VGN-S460

the fan is screwed together with the motherboard, the only way i figured is to separate it is completely unscrew the motherboard, cd drives.....then unscrew the fan from the bottom side of the motherboard....

i took the fan out just today, wantted to add some lubricating oil to it, but then can't manage to separate the blades & expose the centre

how much did the replacement fan cost? i am in canada, not even sure sony stores here have it.

Overheating problem

I'm not sure if there is much you can do about it, it's a design flaw. Keep vents clear, use it on a flat surface. If possible, put small blocks under the laptop to give it some extra airflow. You can get cooling stands like this:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=29973&&source=14&doy=Search

But I'm not sure how effective they are.

Good luck :)
