Computer was unresponsive and would not do a forced shutdown when I held the power button down. Had to unplug it. Let it sit for a bit and plugged it in, power light was green but immediately started flashing red, along with the lower optical drive light. The upper optical drive light is steady. Only way to shut it down is to unplug. Doesn't matter how long I leave it unplugged. Pretty sure it needs a new psu but I wanted to be sure. Thanks.

I had a Systemax Pc that did that and it turned out it was a faulty power supply

Found that unplugging ALL devices but motherboard didn't help. Unplugged motherboard and connecting to power w/o anything else and machine didn't start. Now I think it's motherboard or cpu.
unfortunately, it sounds like it. Look at motherboard and see if any caps a9look kind of like small soda cans) have bulged tops...if so you've blown one or more capaciters. You may be able to get that fixed, but you still won't know what caused it. At this point, I usually get a different computer.
I've already decided to buy an external enclosure for the hdd and connect it to my laptop. The PC is 10 yr old toast.
