Fridge not freezing meats

Side by side fridge not freezing meats on freezer. Blows cold air but meats are not freezing. The other side of fridge not cold enough either. Cleaned dust underneath on both front & back, unplugged overnight it started blowing cold air on both sides for a couple of days but now it's back to not getting cold enough to freeze meat in the freezer & other side not getting cold either.

It's an old whirlpool side by side that was given to me so I have no clue how old it is either. It's model number is ED25DQXVP02. I noticed the condenser fan motor in the bottom back of the fridge isn't working [I do know it stops and starts but I never saw it turn on] so I unplugged then fridge overnight and started to buy a new condenser fan motor only to have my niece phone me to tell me that the fridge seem to be working normally blowing cold air on both sides (I did plugged the unit before heading out). So I hung on the the new motor I purchased and decided to return it since the fridge seem to be working (I left a bottle of water in it to test and it froze). Today my niece told me she put a little pint of ice cream in the fridge last night and it was all melted when she opened it so I guess I'm back to square one. The compressor seem to be running fine but every time I look to check the fan is never running. I kind of give it a push then it would work then it stops and I have to give it a push again. I'm wondering if that's the part I need to replace or could it be the control board or the start relay? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry too much about the board or relays, the chances of them being part of the problem are pretty slim, I think in my experience 99% of the time it is the obvious answer which would be the fan motor. Good luck

I was writing a big note here before then hit the wrong button, it was just a bunch of jargon anyway. Yes it is the condenser fan motor causing your problems. Doesn't cool the refrigerant properly than nothing works. I would change the fan before it causes any damage to the compressor.

Thank you very much Colin. Do you think it would be good to change the start relay and motherboard also? I already bought the condenser fan motor today and will install it tomorrow morning. I will post an update a few days after. I just wanted to be sure the fridge will run without fail cuz I had just gone grocery shopping for two weeks worth of food when it broke down and I had to throw everything out :(

SOURCE: Fridge side not cooling, Freezer side is....

(After trying FixYa and paying for the premium service -- during which error codes were not even discussed) I called a service tech. Turns out it was the fan above the fridge side (which explains why the freezer was still working fine) that was "humming" but not always spinning. A quck swap of the fan and we were back in business.

FYI -- The SubZero tech said it was very uncommon for the fans to go bad.

Refrigerator side freezes

if the food in the fridge side is freezing it sounds like the damper door isn't closing, the way it works is cold air is produced in the freezer side, the evaporator fan blows the cold air from the freezer to the fridge side and it blows through the damper assy. if the damper door isn't closing youll have sub zero air constantly blowing into the fridge sidethe part number is 5304482075 but it's around 200 dollars.you can go here to sears and look up the parts or call a tech in to check it out

I have a 23' free standimg dispensing side by side ref. my ref is not cooling but the freeze part is working

when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing?all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold, the evap fan blows the cold air from the freezer and into the fridge side, there are ducts on the bottom left side where the air return sto the freezer,if that's blocked the fridge will get warm, also if the fan is blowing depending on your model you could have a damper,it's in the fridge section up top where the cold air blows into, all it is is a door that opens and closes to let the air in when the fridge section gets warm and then it closes when it's cold enough,if the damper is bad it won't open and let the air in,sometimes it gets stuck in the open position and things start to freeze in the fridge section.if you can't figure it out send the model number and i can see what model you have, open the fridge door, look up on the right side near the ceiling and you should see a tag with the model number.good luck and have a great weekend.also from the bottom up in the freezer, remove the second bin of food and touch the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's frost or like snow on the back inside wall of the freezer you have a defrost problem, let me know what you find.

Refrigerator freezing food.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Side by side freezer works fine ice cold.fridge not so good. only at 57 degrees

Listen for the fan motor to run. Open the freezer\ push the door switch with your finger \ listen for the fan that blows the cold air to the fridge. only the freezer side gets cold...fan blows cold to the fridge side. If the defrost timer has broken then ice may be blocking the flow of cold air to the fridge also. Only 2 things to check. Good Luck
