The machine will fax, but won't do anything else.. It sounds like it is locked up. It will not pick up the paper or print. It makes a clicking noise when you try to print something or copy something.

HP's are notorious for not recognising paper sizes. Especially if you are out of the USA. HP printers are default set for USA paper. I have to set mine every now and again to the UK paper size system before it will print within the borders.
Go to paper selection etc and set the paper sizes before you print. Eventually, they do memorise the settings, as odd as that sounds.
That model quite often breaks plastic parts that hold the gears together in the sheet feeder, a new sheet feeder will run around $49.00, there's no way to transfer faxes out of the machine without printing.
just clean paper pick up roller whit wet cloth or alcohol...you can do this for ADF pick up rollers too if someday have the same problem whit ADF. Good Luck!
Typically when a machine asks you to use the bypass tray it does not like the size of the paper you have in the machine.
sounds like a paper size problem, check the paper guides in the machine, make sure they are up against the paper. Make sure the paper size in your printer driver is the same as the paper in the machine.
Failing that, power off the machine, unplug it, let it sit for a couple of minutes, power it back up, this cleares anything in the volitile memory.
Most of the time putting paper in the machine will allow it to continue printing anything that is in the memory. Other functions such as recall etc etc are not available on these low end models. For example this model does not have a harddrive. Usually a bad fax situation like this will lock the machine up. This forces a clearing out of the memory to bring the machine back to life.
There is a sensor in paper tray .u will see just its lever at the other end of lever there is a sensor .i think it is dirty .just clean it properly.now when u will put paper u will listen beep.now sensor is working .fails to pick up mean that fax try to pick paper but not pick the paper .there is a ruler justclean it with cloth and some licquid.and properly check this ruler is movi ng or not moving.
Are we talking about a paper feed problem from the paper cassette tray or the Auto Document feeder on the top. Either way, check the the paper width guides, or if it is the paper cassette tray, remove it and check the paper pick up roller locking clips.
