NAD CD 5425 - No Spin - Sometimes

Hi There , I've had a NAD 5425 CD Player for donkey's years but just recently when I insert a CD and close the tray the player immediately ejects the CD. The next day it will work like a charm again and then at some stage start spitting out the CDs. Took the cover off and noticed that the motor will not spin up on insertion.
Is there some sort of switch which is activated when the tray is closed, if so where will it be situated ?
I really don't have the means for a huge repair bill but am willing to tackle basic repairs myself. ( Replaced enough display bulbs over the years )
Read another post where the person gave the player a smack ... it works, but as he mentioned it's not a long term solution. Does anyone have a picture of where the peg & microswitch is situated ? Regards, Bernard.

Hey petraman, you're a star !! Unit's been playing for a couple of
hours now, no hiccups. I never had a drawer belt so made one up with
some o-rings & super glue...sanded over the join to make it smooth
all around. Will order one during the week. Also got the remote working
after 5 years of nothing, just stripped and cleaned everything. One
happy puppy here, no more rejection.

You don't know anything about Rega Planar 3's do you ? The player plays
the record for about 10 minutes, slows down, stops then reverses
direction. Plays the LP backwards !! Don't laugh, I've already had some
weird looks from people here when I mention it. Rega's site suggests a
motor replacement or a motor upgrade. It hasn't had heavy use & I
always rotate the glass by hand to assist the spin-up.

Thanks again for your help with the CD. Cheers for now, Bernard Rother.
PS Still using my original vintage NAD 3020 Amp...gorgeous.

I've dealt with this type issue quite a bit.
Believe it or not the drawer belt needs to be changed.
If the drawer isnt drawn all the way into the unit...the disc motor wont spin and ....you get rejected

Hi. Hope you can help me out here. Some1 is offering to sell me his NAD C521i CD player. Its been with him for 5 years. Is it wise to get it since it is already 5 years old (at least that i what the guy is...

This cd player sound great but have in mind it is fitted with NE5532 op amps in linedriver stage, but single trafo supply, and this player is a standard production line cd player. I owned one, i liked the NAD sound, and i think if you pay something like $100-$130 you will be happy. Also you ask if you shall be aware of something, in older nad cd player displays is sometimes defect, but easy to fix. Also the laser need to be adjusted often. (as in most cd players.)
Step from track 1 to the last traack fast and back to track 1 again, listen to music parts from track 1, track 4, track 10 track xx.
If the sounud is not choppy, if there are coming sound in both speakers and otherwise it sounds good then i think you can buy it without expecting major problems.

Hi, I have a NAD C541i cd player when i turn it on i get three blue line on the display, i open the draw and insert a CD disc but the blue lines stay on the display and the disc don't play. can you...

The blue lines you mention should flash when trying to find
the 'Table of Contents' of your CD, even if a CD isn't loaded.
If when a CD is loaded and these lines flash for a while without
any CD info e.g track no. / disc length then it's more likely that a problem has occurred with the laser.
Various NAD CD players use the Sony KSS-213 Laser unit
and for some reason particularly with NAD CD players, they tend
to drift out of calibration over time so what i usually do when i come across this is very finely adjust the pot trim on the laser itself and testing a CD between adjustments.

Want to play cd on old cd player

If you want an old CD Player to play a disc burnt on a PC, the file format has to me .wav. Most burning software will convert other formats to .wav files.

My NAD cd/dvd T550 displays NO DISC.

I have the same problem. When I insert a disk, my NAD T 550 DVD player displays 'No Disc'. It started with new disks while still reading older disks, but at some time it stopped recognizing any disk. Did you receive any suggestion yet or has anyone a suggestion?

NAD C521i four year old. Usually fails to find cd's When it does tracking and sound is bad.

Also the lens on the laser could be dirty.

Take it to a tech . Try a local stereo store . They should know who's best.

NAD 5425 CD Player display light out

Hi aartman

Yes it does have backlamps.

They are soldered to the PCB so you will need a few tools like a soldering iron, philips screwdrivers, solder, and some replacement lamps. Replace the lamps with this type from Farnell electronics. They have a 15000 hr life expectancy and last alot longer in the unit. I have tried many types of lamps over the years, and found these are the best choice if you want them to last.

FOR YOUR SAFETY-BE SURE TO DISCONNECT FROM THE MAINS BEFORE REMOVING THE LID

To get access to the lamps, you need to pull the main PCB out of the chassis to then get access to the bottom side of the printed circuit board where the 2 screws that retain the white lamp reflector assembly. Change both lamps with the type I mentioned,
6ab9edb.jpg Be careful not to flex the LCD display that is now exposed, it is quite fragile with the support of the lamp reflector cover no longer in place. ... reverse procedure to reassemble and away you go.

I am more than happy to talk about this solution with you further. Just ask away. Cheers

NAD C521 discs not spinning

The CD player has a sensor that is supposed to detect when a disc is inserted and spin it up etc. yours might be the problem, either it has some loose connections (that you haven't noticed) or it simply misbehaves. Another thing could be the motor itself that somehow 'misses' the spin up signal and needs a 'manual' boost. The best solution in your case is probably to bring it to some lab.
