The fan assembly is starting to really vibrate. I do not see a way to get at the motor and bearings for replacement without just replacing the entire unit which is mounted to a Ceiling joist in the attic. The support bar that the fan motor is screwed to is not removable. It appears to be pressed or riveted into the fan housing. Is there some trick to removing the motor from inside the bathroom?
Mine was doing the same thing. I found it was coated with dust.
I took the blower out [unplugged it, and removed the single screw holding it to the box], took the face plate off [removed 4 or five screws] brushed the squirrel-cage fan blades using a narrow, long and stiff bristled brush, and reassembled it [used care to align the small plastic axle on the flap valve ] and reinstalled it. The vibration was greatly lessened and the fan was about as quiet as it had ever been.
There usually is a way to pry out the motor (and bracket that it is attached to) from inside the bathroom. If you take the grill off and the light most of what you see is the bracket that the motor is attached to. look for a small screw along one edge or a small flange that is inserted into a slot in the actual housing. sometimes a straight screwdriver is necessary to pop it out. Most fan rattling, however, seems to come from either a blocked duct, or that the whole fan housing is loose somehow. Check that also.
