1994 buick ninety eight 3800

I am having a problem with the car overheating. When it gets around 200 degrees yu cant push on the accelerator without it stalling. I found a leak by the thermostat so I replaced it and the gasket. I was thinking of checking the heater core next but I hear that can be a real pain. is there any quick fixes I can try or do I have to replace the heater core

Bad heater core won't cause engine to overheat unless its leaking coolant and coolant level low, if car is running hot make sure your radiator cooling fan is coming on, fan won;t come on unless a/c is on or engine reaches 228 degrees

The fan is coming on. Do you have any other suggestions that I can check?

SOURCE: How do you replace a Heater Core? My Camry is 98 LE 2.2 Liter

before u replace heator core check the drain for the a/c it is possible that it is clogged with something if the liquid is clear to jack the car up on the pass side.get up under and look where the under bottom the car and firewall meet should be a hose that is not attached to nothing coming out of the bottom of the car. when u find it blow air in to it and it should come unclogged. it is possible that the hose is push back in to the car. if so put the carpet back on the passenger side look under the back a/c box should be next to the firewall of the car put it back on. good luck

SOURCE: We replaced the thermostat and still no heat. We

There should be a heater control valve attached to the heater hose line, it can stick shut, and no circulation to heater core= no heat. You eliminated the core and t-stat as the problem, check autozone site, it is a $45 part, hope you have heat!!!

1994 olds 98 3800 engine won't ideal after warmed up.Hold petal to floor start motor, engine runs up and down by it's self with out moving acc. pedal. could this be a TPS?

May be the Idle air Control Valve (IAC) . Suggest you do the search for both the TPS and IAC. There's a wealth of info on how to test, clean replace the sensors on the 3.8 engine.

Need to know oil type and capacity for a 1994 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency Elite

10W30 will be fine for a car with under 100 K miles. I usually go up to 10W40 when driving in very hot temps or when my moter is getting a bit more worn. It takes 5 Qts. with a filter change. 4 Qts without.

The overheating might be caused by a thermostat stuck closed, have it replaced. That should fix the overheating, as for the hesitating, run a scan on the ECM module to make sure you dont have any codes, clear if any and fix anything that might've gotten damaged from the overheating.

You can take the egr solenoid apart and clean the bottom of the solenoids to fix it. A failed egr valve will not keep it from starting. Check the fuel pressure, should be around 40.

I would put a new fuel filter on and try that. If that didn't work, sparkplugs and wires, and a distributor cap and rotor. Also make sure your air filter is clean.
