My Sanyo Xacti S4 won't power on and the red light above the LCD screen next to the view finder flashes. If I hook it to my computer via the cable it will power on work for a few moments then shuts down and the red light flashes again. Sometimes the lens will zoom closed before shutting down but most times not and is left out with no power. I am using brand new rechargable energizer batteries.
Very likely your AC adaptor is broken and not providing power to the device.
I have a Sanyo VAR-G9 that failed.
Take your AC adaptor to Radio Shack, and they may be able to give you a "universal" replacement.
I am using a Radio Shack P/N 273-1696 adaptor and my Xacti HD2000 is now working again.
I connected my Sanyo VPC - 603 digital camera to an AC/DC adaptor due to battery malfunctions. After about 5 seconds, i heard a spark sound and the camera went off. What might have gone wrong? How can it be repaired?

your camera problem isn't clear but sound like shutter unit does not initializing. I don't think you can save. It is not simple job for if the shutter problem then local repair shop would charge you $65 to 135 mostly.
good luck with you
Do you mean your subject's eyes are showing "redeye"? This is a common problem with cameras that have the flash very close to the lens. Almost every photo editing program has a tool to remove red-eye. Check your computer to see what you have installed.
In the future, most cameras have a red-eye flash setting which shoots a short flash before the main flash to close down the pupils in your subjects eyes to eliminate red-eye. You could also turn up the lights in the room...sometimes that helps.
Sanyo will replace it for $50 if you mail it to them. Just contact them for the address and slip. This is common. The parts are hard to find. Your best bet would be ebay COPY AND PASTE THIS LINK IN YOUR ADDRESS BAR;
Find a new supply of "Duracell Ultra with M3 Technology" batteries and give them a try. The flashing red light is usually an indication that the batteries you have in the unit are not producing sufficient power to run the camera. Rechargable batteries are should have a rating of 2500mAh or above in order to provide enough power to maintain the draw from the camera.
