Newer sets are a lot more picky about the signal and will show all kinds of noise etc---even on cable a number of the older sets have a better picture.

it is hard to be sure what the issue is but are you sure it is not the cable or hdmi connection are you using an air antenna or actual cable or satellite signal this issue sounds like a non cable service issue meaning you have an air antenna hooked up is this true?

I am shopping for an hd lcd tv for my brother. He said his son told him to make sure he purchased one with a built in over the air antenna to install in his RV. Is there such an animal. I Used to sell...

No. I don't believe there are any that have the antenna built in, simply because the antenna must usually be placed high up and away from other electronics to be truly effetive. Also, you would need to change the direction of the antenna to achieve the best quality of picture. HDTV antenna can be acquired fairly cheap these days. All you need to do is make sure the tv has a (most likely coaxial) connection for an external antenna.

How to improve picture quality?

are you using an hd source ? hd cable box, satelitte receiver or antenna with the digital channels programmed in. regular tv channels will not look as good as the picture you saw in the store when you bought it. they all use only high definition signals.

My new tv only gets some channels and not others

Have you tried an amplified antenna? It's basically a regular antenna but includes an amplifier to help bring in weak stations. An out door antenna may also help. I live about 3 miles from a TV station and can't pick them up due to the insanely old apartment I live in.
