I have an Aspire RC500 thats been working well for several years. Only recently, I started using the computer in TV mode and suddenly Windows (PC mode) no longer loads: The computer gets stuck PREPARING and stays there indefinitely. Perhaps this problem is unrelated to TV mode, but it seems more than a coincidence that the first time I tried using a particular feature, something broke down. All other modes (TV, Music, Radio, etc) still work fine. I still have the original factory CD roms, but would like to try to recover the data from the hard disk before I try that. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, as I cant seem to get onto Acer support.
Hmm I suggest getting a "biege-Box", not as "pretty", but they get the job done.

Hiya ya, It sound to me you could be courripted with spy ware or a virus i will recommend using Ad-Aware SE Personal install this and run it! - you can find Ad-Aware SE Personal from this direct download link - http://software-files.download.com/sd/99nfDnO0WNfR5Wh8fucNAQf7N59p48yGyOq1e_XM8HIX6d0PeT0xd36uOth8kTloWoNAp4GOAh-Z2YdX8nf9afcV5NPn3Uc0/software/10639408/10045910/3/aawsepersonal.exe?lop=link&ptype=3000&ontid=8022&siteId=4&edId=3&pid=10639408&psid=10045910 This is a very good program i have been using Ad-Aware now for around 2 years and it's super. However if you have a virus you can use Avg_free - If you are already using norton or somthing like that REMOVE IT because personally Nortons Crap" Its not recommended - to remove your anti-virus go to Startmenu Settings/control panel /Add or remove Programs, Select the anti-virus program and press remove. After you done that! close all windows and open internet explorer with this link (explorer will open automaticlly) - http://free3.grisoft.cz/softw/70free/setup/avg75free_446a991.exe install that and run it on a virus check from the Avg test centre - If they don't work Then i would recommend a full deep clean for windows Xp But before you do that if you can Back-up any files that you want to keep as you need to Fully formatt C:/ drive (this is normally the drive that windows runs on) If you would need help at doing this On the telephone i can be contacted on * 0906 179 0906 (Call cost £1.50p/minute) @ all times. In the meantime take care And keep it hardcore = HTID = Hardcore till i die!

Acer Aspire RC500 stays on BIOS page for about 5-10minutes before booting into OS.
