I'm not sure how familiar you are with tablets, but they have a lock screen that protects it from coming on accidentally and hitting buttons. You will likely need to make the screen come on and then swipe your finger either up from near the bottom, or from one side to another. If you let me know what kind of phone you have (Android/iPhone) I can give you something more definite.
So it only says android and never loads to the point you see the screens you are used to?
Sounds like a failed update or something. Look up and perform a factory reset. It's usually a button holding down combo but I don't know what yours would be.
See if there is a reset on it. Its usually a very small hole marked reset and it takes a pin or something very small to press it. A reset might work and it won't erase anything off it.
Turn the unit off. Press and hold both the power button and the volume button at the same time, until the little yellow-green android robot comes on the screen. You can then release the buttons. You will eventually get a menu (this took a while to come up). Use the Volume button to scroll down to "Reset to Factory Standards", and select by pressing the power button.
