Question about Zenith C27A24T 27" TV

1 Answer

Picture problems My 27' zenith suddenly started narrowing down to the point where there is only a small strip of picture in the middle of the TV. Sometimes if you shut it off it will come back to full screen but only for a very short time. I ahve had this TV for 10-12 years and I am wondering if it is worth fixing.

If the line goes across the screen you have a loose solder joint on the vertical output IC. I've seen this happen many times in Zeniths and a lot of other sets. If the IC is not loose then there is a loose solder joint somewhere else in the vertical circuit. These IC's are 10 - 13 pin chips that operate the vertical deflection on your set. I feel like a drop of solder in the right place will fix it! Stargazer

Resolder the vertical deflection section. Change pump up capacitor if it has one...100uf is a typical value. Is the vertical output some flavor of LA783x ?? May need to replace. A model # would help.

The picture is jumping, sometimes the tv shows three of the picture.

The solder joints on the vertical output IC have cracked. This is a common problem in those sets and resoldering the pins of the vertical outpit IC will cure the problem.

Jumpy picture

If this set uses a picture tube then your problem may be in the vertical deflection circuit. Also an unstable power supply will cause this problem. Stargazer
