Press the function key with the image(mouse/no mouse).For M840 its [ F5 ].
Try [ F5 ] or [ FN ]+[ F5 ]. For other pcs it maybe [ F9 ] .

My touch pad scroll function is not working on my Toshiba satellite M300 laptop

To use scroll function, you have to install the touchpad drivers, which are available from Toshiba Official Support. Click Here to download the required touchpad drivers. Select 'Touchpad' from Category and install Synaptics or Alps Drivers (Depending upon the type of touchpad you have on your system).

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

My touch pad will not allow me to tap on it with my finger to choose things but will allow me to use my finger to move the arrow around the screen? help it very frustating

just reinstall the driver for it ..if it has no driver it works just with the generic one in windows and the scroll and select will not be allowed..or install a usb mouse and will be easier to work and have all features..(in case the driver is not available for the touch pad )
here is the place to look for the pad's driver ..

Ok so here goes.... I had the same problem:

Go to the 'start' button and then hit the 'control panel' option, then click 'mouse' then go to 'Device Settings' and then to the 'settings'. When you get to this screen it shows a list on lthe left hand side choose the 'tapping' option and then ok.

Hope it works for you...it did for me.
