Replace Transfer Belt

C360 error: "Replace Image Transfer Belt Unit"

The error message under that title is "Have the image transfer belt replaced soon." It's a new unit, but resists doing the Gradation Adjust. Tried returning the old belt (which was working before the replacement) and error message remains, so apparently the problem is not with the new belt.

System Error Clear (System 1 -> Initialization) gives "Result: OK" but has no effect; the problem remains after machine restart. However, it does NOT at any time give L-5 error (Transfer belt unit accumulated rotation time excess warning), just continues to say "replace image transfer belt unit", and will not allow anything else to proceed. What am I missing? (Transfer belt clutch malfunction?

It sound as if you are having a problem with the registration clutch, I would first clean the reg. roller first and you may need a service tech to address the registration clutch.

CAUSE: Failed 1st Image Transfer Pressure/Retraction Motor (M11) and/or Transfer Belt/Cleaning Unit.

SOLUTION: Perform an I/O check on M11 then verify that the motor and Transfer Belt/Cleaning Unit drive components are not bound up. Replace M11 (p/n 9314 1100 72) and/or the Transfer Belt/Cleaning Unit (p/n 4049 212) as needed.

IMPORTANT: If the error reoccurs, there is probably an open ICP on PWB-MC (due to a current overload caused by M11 or a bound Transfer Belt/Cleaning Unit). Replace PWB-MC (p/n 4036 7811 07).

There are two ways to solve this issue, First you can replace the whole transfer unit or you can install a new un blown fuse to rest the internal counter.

Is this an error 16 rorate problem? It does seem weird that you still get it having replaced the transfer unit.
However the printer does have a nasty habit of not re-setting things correctly - it creates the error message by blowing a fuse on the unit and it has been known to do this even when a new unit is put in.
There are a couple of places on ebay that sell a kit that explains how to get to the fuse and they supply a new fuse. It appears to be a 1/4 amp slow blow fuse
To get at it you will need to unscrew a black plastic plate at one end of the transfer unit (it is the one that has a square hole with the main electrical contacts poking through. Loosen the 2 screws and remove. the fuse is on a small circuit board that is easily removed. replace teh fuse (needs soldering) and this might do the trick. If you have a tester might be worth removing the small circuit board (wire connector comes off easily) and checking.
This fues usually blows when the transfer unit is old and a sensor unit gets clogged up. However even when teh sensor and the band at the side of the belt has been cleaned the fuse still sometimes blows.
This might solve the problem.

Your error means -
Incorrect pressure by or separation from the transfer belt cleaner
Remedy
1 - Check the Belt cleaner positioning sensor pc9 (located at the rear on the left hand side towards the top when looking from the front of the printer)
2 - Replace the Second image transfer roller pressure/separation
mechanisms.
3 - Check the Image transfer roller pressure contact solenoid SL2 (this sits more in the middle behind the printhead)
4 - Replace PWB-A.
5 - Replace PWB-P.
