Kenwood surround sound system might be failing, voice shifts from center speaker to subwoofer anyone heard of this?

I have a Kenwood surround sound system I purchased new in 2001 which looks to be failing. I'll be watching a movie and I hear a clicking sound and suddenly the voice starts to come out of the subwoofer instead of the center speaker. Sometimes if I wait long enough it starts coming out of the center speaker again. Sometimes I need to shut it down and restart or let is sit off for a bit. Anyone heard of this issue? Might it be a failure of the cable or center speaker instead of the unit? Although I do hear a clicking noise as if it was being turned on and off when this happens.

SOURCE: Kenwood VR-305 receiver surround speakers will not work

make sure that all input cables are in the correct positon also make sure that any inputs you are using don't have a macrovision in them that will also kill your sound due to copyright laws and stuff but main thing check all wires coming in to receiver and if you need more inputs go to walmart and get a rca splitter basicaly its a 1 in two out connection to add more cables in the input

SOURCE: No sound output from Center and Surround speakers

the only time the center and surround speakers put out sound is when it has a surround sound source such as a dvd etc. and only certain sounds come from them as well.

Kenwood vr606 reciever shutting off subwoofer and centre speaker simultaneously after few minutes/seconds of powering on. WHat's the cause?

The receiver's out put sections are grouped in pairs. Front left and right in one output, rear left and right in second output, and center channel and sub output on the third. Sounds like a semiconductor or semiconductors have gone bad in the center & sub output.

I don't know how to get all speakers to work

Sounds like your surround settings are not correct. Try selecting a prologic surround mode and see if that turns on all speakers for you.

When watching a DVD, the surround sound plays all background music but the actors voices are not heard - can hear music and voices in 2 speaker only - TV programs play in 2, 3, and 5 speaker mode.

If there is nothing at all from the center channel while watching a DVD, first try resetting the system (unplug the power cord from the sub, and the DC power cord from the media center for 30+ seconds) If a reset doesn't help this, run the "adaptIQ" setup disc again. Honestly, this is a very odd problem for that system to have. (especially since we know the center speaker works for other sources) I hope this helps.

Garbled / feedback sounds from powered subwoofer

The surround processing portion of the unit has a problem. In either stereo or direct mode, the digital procesing is bypassed. This could be just the surround processing IC, but that IC may not be available as a separate part. I would suggest that you bring this unit to an authorized Onkyo service center for an estimate.

DVD plays partial sound

Check your speaker connections it sounds like you have a 5.1 or higher sound system. 5.1 means left front speaker, right front speaker, center speaker, right rear speaker, left rear speaker and subwoofer.

Voices in movies all get channeled to the center speaker (you can usually hear it a bit from the right and left front speakers as well). If your center speaker is disconnected or not working, you will only hear the background sounds.
