I put a dvd into player, now it won't eject or play and I can't even turn off the machine. If I unplug it and then plug it back in, the logo screen reappears with the image of a turning disc in the corner. The display says "hello" but never progresses beyond this.
I have had the same issue with my LG bluray player and in fact this morning I noted the unit was "on" but would do anything. The only solution I've found so far is to un-plug the power & let it all drain out ;-) then plug it back in and it should "wake up" into a mode that you can control it again, until it does it again sometime in the future.
I was looking to see if this was a defect in the firmware but haven't found anything yet.
This particular unit eventually died completely and LG replaced it but not for free even though this problem, and others, did occur prior to the warranty ending. Never the less, they did give me about 50% off a new better unit which has worked flawlessly.
What I'm saying is that this may be the tip of the iceberg and if you have this problem shortly after buying the unit start a case with the company ASAP so it is sure to be on record as possibly a warranty issue.

You may have to replace the lens on the player. O replace the entire DVD player. You may be able to find one online. be sure to give all the information possible. The problem is that the lens is not reading the digital information.

$130 for a new drive. i have the same problem find a place that can fix it.
Unit will not eject or play dvds or vhs, has no volume when turned on, and channels will not change. No buttons will work. We were watching a vhs and had to stop it by unplugging and now nothing works. LG told me to buy a new one because it is about 3 years old. Worked great until today. Is this a bigger problem than just the dvd player?
I have this issue also, however it appears that in my case the spindle motor is binding. If I work it back and forth for a while it will loosen up some and then play a disc briefly.
The DVD drive looks like it is straight out of a computer. I can't help but wonder if a computer DVD/RW drive maybe could be substituted in place of the original.
