Drive won't mount

Dear Tech Support, Hello, My porsche drive won't mount on the desktop and won't appear in the list of harddrives in disk utility. it turns on and appears to be running (i can hear the motor when i put it close to my ear) but it won't show up on the desktop. the only thing that has happened is that the last time i ejected my drive from my G5 and turned off the drive, the computer said that i had improperly ejected my drive. there had been at least a 1-2minute lapse between when i ejected it and turned it off, so it was wierd that it still hadn't been ejected from the computer. ever since then i haven't been able to get it to mount. i have improperly disconnected my harddrive before, and nothing has ever happened. i tried data rescue but because the drive won't even show up on the desktop, it can't recognize it as a drive to rescue. is there any way to save this drive? i have something very important on it that I need by wednesday. all the best, aleigh

Let say, ... earlier you have been 'lucky' with not damaging the drivers of the drive installed on your system (computer). This time it got the most of you. Try installing the drivers again and set the drive up once more. Keep me updated.

Wd3200h1u00 cant mount

If the hard drive cannot mount, there is not a valid volume on it. With the drive physically connected and powered, open Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility (or if the hard drive in question is supposed to be your OS volume, boot up to Disk 1 of the OS install set and open Disk Utility from the File or Apple menu (I don't recall which one at the moment). If the disk icon shows up in the list of available disks, click on it. Any volumes on the disk should appear. If not, the disk is unformatted or the volume information is corrupted. If the icon doesn't show up at all, the disk is either not properly connected and powered or is defective.

Macbook pro os x 10.4.11 won't recognize or mount my new Hitachi xl3000

The Hitachi XL3000 is formatted for the PC, but your Mac should recognize it. Try another cable or port. Check in Disk Utility to see if the drive appears. If it does, then you can format it for the Mac. You can do this in Disk Utility by clicking on the hard drive on the left side of the window. Then choose the Partition Tab, and change the Volume Scheme drop-down menu to 1 Partition. Then click on the Option button, choose GUID partition map, and click OK. Then choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for the format and click Apply and OK. Your drive should then format for Mac and mount on the desktop. If it does not appear in Disk Utility after changing the cable and port, or trying another computer, then you may need to return it for replacement. I hope this helps.

Mac doesn't read the drive. Time Machine reads 'delayed' then 'failed' because it can't read drive. Won't backup. Drive doesn't show up on screen.

- Open the disk utility application found in the applications folder, then open the utilities folder

- See if it detects the LaCie drive by looking on the right hand side where it lists all the available drives including your optical drive

- If it is just greyed out you might only need to re-format the drive or possibly repair the disk.

- If it does not appear in this list the drive has most likely failed and is not economically repairable

My G-tech Gmini 500g won't mount on the desktop but it mounts on disk utility.

Hi, if you can see the drive in Disk Utility, is the volume appear greyed out? If so, then it sounds like the directory has been damaged, which usually is caused by disconnecting a drive improperly or losing power. DiskWarrior is a utility that can often repair a damaged directory and allow the drive to mount.

The icon for my lacie exyernal hard does not show

Here's two suggestions. (If your using Mac OS X 10.x)
Make sure external hard drives are to be shown by clicking "Finder" in the menu bar then "Preferences" and under the "Sidebar" section selecting "External Disks".
Also check that the hard drive is mounting by opening "Disk Utility" by first opening the "Applications" folder then the "Utilities" folder and double clicking "Disk Utility" and in the left sidebar checking to see if your external hard drive is listed as one of the mounted drives. Hope this helps, don't forget to comment/vote if this helped. Thank you.

La cie hard drive

it's very likely your LaCie power supply is foobar and can no longer supply the current needed by the HDD. happens with a lot of external hdd enclosures with cheap power supplies - hook it in and turn it on without being connected to USB first, wait abit, then hook up the USB.

Icon disappeared from desktop on my mac

By stating the System Profiler environment, I asume you're a Macintosh user. Try going into your DISK UTILITIES folder. Appllications/Utilities/Disk Utility And when/if the drive appears in the the pane on the left, select it and hit the MOUNT button at the top of the window. If the drive fails to mount, you may need data recovery software or services. Usually when a drive enclosure box has a flickering led, it's usually to see the drive activity as far as reading or writing to the drive. The drive may be struggling to mount or there are bad blocks or sectors on the drive. Hope this helps.

Harddrive is not recognised by my Mac OSX (10.4.8)

When you reboot and hold down the option key, does the drive show up during that initial process? Is the weird noise more like clicking or more like a high-pitched whirring? If the drive has been damaged on a hardware level (causes too numerous to list... age, power fluctuations, being knocked over or dropped, corrosion, poor workmanship...) and won't show up at all, it is probably now a paperweight. There are a couple of utilities available to troubleshoot disc problems for Macs. The most popular are Disk Warrior and Tech Tool Pro. They can often "see" a disc that Disc Utilities misses, and assist you in copying the data from the drive. This process is important to be cautious with, however, since your drive is making noises it should no longer be considered reliable and the best hope is to retrieve your data and then get a new one or have yours replaced [if it is under warranty].

Drive won't mount

Hi, am not that familiar with your porsche drive but you might want to have a look at this forum > http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=63067. There are software that might be able to help you from the manufacturer's website http://www.lacie.com//support/support_manifest.htm?id=10096. Also, have you tried running the CD that came with it for the control software? Cheers
