Even when i put in brand new batteries it wont power on in picture taking mode. Sometimes it does an can work for a a couple of hours or so then it will just stop. The screen will flash as if its going to come on then turns off again, leaving the lense half out. Thought it might have something to do with the type of battery but ive tried so many!!

I have replaced the batteries in my camera 4 times in a row and it switches on for about 2 seconds then switches off. Is it worth getting it looked at or buy a different camera?

when turnig camera on in pic mode, the screen displays "turn power off and on again" . sometimes after 5-10 trys it will start working, but it is very frustrating, expecially for candid shots, like during a wedding

My camera started doing this about a year ago - where I would take a picture but it would say "turn power on and off again", at first it was just every now and again, then it started happening all of the time and now when I press power it just blips on for a second then turns off. I can still look at the pictures saved on it but I can't take any pictures. My camera is about three years old so I don't know if it's just time for a new one, but if someone knows how to fix it please let me know!!

I press power it just blips on for a second then turns off. I can still look at the pictures saved on it but I can't take any pictures. Display says " turn power off then on" I installed new batteries and reset internal memory using menu botton.

Same problem..."turn power off and on again". I hate this camera because it only turns on when it wants to! And then when it does turn on...I have a limited amount of time because it will turn off for no reason!

same problem blips on for a sec or two then switches off. fine to look at previous pictures but no chance in taking anymore...HELP!

the camera will not turn on in picture taking mode

  • melc4k May 13, 2009

Received an email from this site asking if the batteries were fully charged. I have to say that I tried 3sets of new batteries and had the same problem. Yes the shutter opens then the camera turns itself off. I have to go to the picture viewing mode to shut the shutter. The camera is kept in a camera case and doesn't get knocked around. It doesn't give any warnings it just shuts off.

Does the lense open up? Are the batteries full of charge? These are the 2 problems that are common for this problem.

Hi, here is a temporary solution that might work for you as it did for me:

1: turn on the camera in picture/movie review mode
2: turn the screen off (not the camera)
3: change from review picture/movie mode to take picture/movie mode
4: turn the screen back on.

You should now be able to take pictures and record.

Hope this is of some help.

Hey Gregorious03,
You could try removing the batteries for at least one minute and then reinserting them, or you could try initializing the camera back to the factory settings under the setup menu. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan
