In Internet Explorer, when you click on a link to a pdf file,
you get the error message “Adobe Reader could not open ‘filename.fdf’ because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted.”

This error is due to an issue with Adobe Acrobat viewing PDF files in a web browser.
Try the following:

1. Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools -> Internet Options and on the General tab to erase all temporary files, cookies and history data.
2. Under Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options, on the General tab click on Settings and make sure you select the option “Automatically” for checking for newer versions of the stored pages. Then attempt to open the PDC file again.
3. If solutions 1 and 2 do not work then uninstall Adobe Acrobat, then reinstall it again.
It seems that Acrobat 6 is more prone to this error so upgrading to Acrobat 7 may solve the problem.

All d best.

Any furthur help feel free to ask me again i will be more than happy to assist you.

SOURCE: i cannot open any programs

Uninstall Adobe reader and download it again from http://www.adobe.com/support/ if that is not where you got it the first time. Those icons and messages all indicate a virus or malware so go to Windows update and ensure that you have their free malware removal toll installed and do a full system virus scan. Steve

SOURCE: adobe reader error message

It is possible that somewhere along the line adobe reader became conflicted with an update from something else ect.

First thing you should try is uninstalling adobe reader completely in add/remove programs. Then Install the latest version of adobe reader.

This should put an end to the error messages and restore functionality to normal.

Cant open pdf

Make sure only adobe 9 is the only version of adobe reader you have installed on that computer. Then go to where your PDF file is and right click on it with the mouse and go into properties.

In the general tab where it says type of file it will show you what program is opening up the PDF file. Click on the change button and where it says recommended programs see if Adobe reader is there, if its not then down below where it says other programs click on the down arrow and see if adobe reader shows up there. If it shows up in either section then choose it, then click on apply, and then click on okay.

Now if for some reason adobe reader doesn't show up in either section, then you'll need to browse for it. It normally installs itself in the program files folder, then double-click on it and go into the adobe folder, Adobe 9.0 and then the reader folder. The name of the reader program looks something like acrord32 and it will say application to the right of it. At that point choose it and apply the changes so it opens up with Adobe reader.

This should cover everything, if your still having problems, let me know and I'll help you out further.

When I open an attachment-pdf for instance. or any attachment for that matter. The windows media player opens, with an error message saying it cannot open this type file. is this an adobe reader problem

Sounds like your files are not assigned to the correct program.

Open Windows Explorer and find a pdf file.

Right click on it and choose Open With...

Select Adobe Reader and check the box at the bottom that says:

Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

Click OK.

All pdf files should then open in Adobe.

You can do the same with any other type of file by choosing the program you want to open it with.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I updated my reader to v9 and now cannot open up

I have seen this before, First try rebooting your computer, if Adobe Reader has an erro trying to open a document once it will cause errors on every other document you try to open until the system is rebooted. If that does not resolve the issue you will likely have to uninstall then reinstall Adobe Reader.

Message: internal error occured pops up.

You will have to uninstall everything that is made by adobe. Adobe flash player, adobe active x. After unstalling that, that should let you put the adobe reader back. Then download the other program I mention earlier.
