You would need a clean partition on a hard drive, a floppy drive (A:\) and the DOS 6.22 floppy's. You may be able to use an USB drive, but I have not tested. Then there is the problem of dual booting. You would need to modify boot.ini, bootmgr (Win 7), or boot from floppy to access DOS.

FYI: Windows has DOS shell already available. Or you can boot into command prompt.

BLUE SCREEN

Which Operating System? You'll need a system disk to run the chkdsk command for a Dos Prompt (black screen with white lettering).

Insert the Operating System Disk in the cd drive, reboot from the operating system disk and select the option to Repair. It will search for your operating system and once found you will select it by entering a 1 for windows. Then it will ask for the Administrator's password which in most cases is blank so just press enter. When you see the Dos Prompt simply enter the command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour and you will notice the percentage of completion going from high to low, but that's normal. Let it run to completion then reboot the machine.

If you still have issues, then you'll need to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install which preserves your music, pictures, documents, data and videos.

Windows XP Repair Install:
Insert the Operating System Disc in the cd drive and boot from it.
When the Options come up select the Option to Install Windows (Don't select Repair). It will start loading windows files and at some point it will ask you to accept the License Agreement by hitting F8. On the next screen after hitting F8 it will begin searching your system for an already installed operating system. It should find yours and give you more options to which you want to select the option to Repair. This will preserve everything you have on the system.

In windows vista to get to the dos prompt you will need to use the operating system disk and boot to it. Then get into the Recovery Console and look down at the bottom for the Dos Command Prompt or Repair option.

MS Dos was the first operating system released by Microsoft. It was purely a command line operating system with no GUI much like dot matrix and the linux terminal.

Acer 5335 not booting

Once you enter the setup and it loads the entire program, then you need to press the R key, which is for repairing the windows installation. This action will take you to the dos mode where further processing will be done. In the dos mode, system will ask you about installation place. Most of the people install their operating system in the C drive, which comes at number 1 option, so you need to press option 1. However, if you have so many partitions or you have installed the operating system then you need to choose the option according to your drive name. Here you need to enter your password as well, but if you have not set any password then you can simply press enter.
*Then there will be a c:\WINDOWS> command in a dos mode where you need to write, "Copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\windows. However, if you have different place of your installed operating system then you will write the address of that drive. This is the whole process and now you can eject the cd and can press exit to restart the system. Now this process will copy the correct NTLDR file from installation disk to your hard drive by making your system in the working condition.

DEAR SIR I HAVE COMPAUTER HP COMAQ DC 7900 I WORK WITH SOME PROGRAM WORKING IN DOS .. THAN I NEED INSTALL DOS OPERATING SYSYTEM THE COMPUTER DON'T RESPON ... ALSO THE COMPUTER DON'T HAVE LPT I BRING CARD...

the best way to do this is probably use windows and run dosbox for windows. What it does is it emulates DOS and lets you run any program that requires dos. Because your computer doesnt have a LPT port. and nowadays only drivers for dos or newer operating systems come with the card. installing the driver in windows then running dosbox, it will see the LPT port.

you can get it here

I am not able to install Windows XP on Compaq Presario CQ60-104TU

Recommend removing OLD DOS Operating system First. Then Install Windows XP. XP will NOT upgrade older systems unless it's Windows 98 and Fully Updated. However, can NO Longer do because Microsoft does NOT support any versions other than "2000/ME/XP/Vista".
