Disconnect any devices (i.e. external keyboard, mouse, printer, cameras etc). Have just power attached. Shut down and reboot. What happens?

If still nothing .. get into the CMOS\BIOS/Setup

Reset CMOS/BIOS to defaults .. save and restart

How do i boot my windows xp when only the wallpaper shows, no icons nothing

First Question John is simple but have you tried to reboot or have you tried to simply go into Recovery mode, even if you do not get there all the way, if it stops before you get to the Safe Mode Screen, just kill your box cold and restart. If not you may have gotten your boot sequence done.
Check on your C drive which you may have to get to via DOS commands and see if your Boot.ini file on the Root of the /C/ drive is similar to mine - except I still like to run this older box with Win XP Pro -
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
tip

Enable Dreamscene

Windows Vista Ultimate has a great feature of putting video as your desktop background. A lot of windows XP and windows Vista (non ultimate) user wanted to do the same. Here is how it can be done using a free and popular software. VLC player.

To set and play a video as wallpaper in Windows XP, Windows Vista Home Premium, Home Basic, Business, Enterprise and Starter edition:
  1. Download and install VLC Player for Windows.
  2. Run VLC Media Player, go to Settings -> Preferences, expand Interface and click on wxWidgets. In the bottom right corner of “wxWidgets interface module” window, click on “Advanced options” to show advanced settings. Then uncheck the Taskbar check box in order to remove VLC Player title from the taskbar while the program is running. Check Systray icon if you want to enable Systray (system tray or notification area) icon instead.
  3. Next, expand Video -> Output Modules and then select Direct X. In bottom right corner of DirectX Video Output window, check the Advanced Options check box in order to see all the settings available. directx-video-output.jpg
  4. Check and tick the “Enable wallpaper mode” check box.
  5. Then, select Playlist and then check or tick the Repeat current item checkbox.
  6. Press “Save” button when done.
  7. Open and play any video that you would like to set as motion wallpaper in VLC Media Player.
  8. If the video hasn’t yet been set as desktop background, right click on the video and click on “Wallpaper”.
  9. The video or movie will be set as if it’s DreamScene motion desktop background wallpaper.
If you do not configure VLC Player to repeatedly play current media in loop, you can still do so after playing the video. Simply click on View then select Playlist. Highlight the video media content that is playing and click on Repeat One or Repeat All button as shown below to loop the video for non-stop video wallpaper.

Note that the video must be encoded in a video format supported by VLC Player such as MPEG, AVI, MP4, WMV, FLV (Flash Video) and etc. Else you will need to convert the video clip to the supported format.

How can i change my wallpaper? i had samsung n150pus.. i tried to look up in control panel setting i coud'nt see or find it!o

Hi fforinas,
Welcome to FixYa! How are you doing?
Are you using Windows 7 Starter Edition? If yes, then you cannot change the wallpaper.
Windows 7 Starter has limitations:

Windows 7 Starter does not include:

* Aero Glass, meaning you can only use the Windows Basic or other opaque themes. It also means you do not get Taskbar Previews or Aero Peek.
* Personalization features for changing desktop backgrounds, window colors, or sound schemes.
* The ability to switch between users without having to log off.
* 64 bit version
* Multi-monitor support.
* DVD playback.
* Windows Media Center for watching recorded TV or other media.
* Remote Media Streaming for streaming your music, videos, and recorded TV from your home computer.
* Domain support for business customers.
* XP Mode for those that want the ability to run older Windows XP programs on Windows 7.

I suggest that you upgrade your Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Home Premium.
Hope that helps. Thank you for using FixYa.

HP Pavilion - No. icons or start menu; only wallpaper

Try booting in safe mode (press F8 repeatedly while booting) A black screen should appera with several boot options. Choose boot in safe mode.

This should bring up a cut down version of windows.

Click on start - all programmes - accessories - system tools - system restore - choose a restore point date prior to your problems.

Hi im using Gateway MX6448, initially i'm using Win XP and now i upgrade to Win 7, but i cannot find display Driver? Can U Help me, Urgent.

I checked the Gateway download site and only found the two video drivers listed on this page:

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?ref=step&st=browse&platform=10022&model=10886&os=10405&type=10083

You can try these and if they do not work, I can only suggest that you get on your support site and chat with a technician to see if they have windows 7 drivers for your notebook that are not posted on their support site.

My gatway ml6721 when it starts it say gatway then it say bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+del

What is your operating system. Is it a Vista or XP? Either way, it is easy to resolve if you have your Windows DVD or CD that came with your computer. If it is a vista, try this link:

hy i have your solution.its simple. the problem is remote network data entry that start in the bios systems, produce by a virus call downloader.trojan or bootable Tj.exe, normally the bios has to read it and it gives the error " media test faliurecheck cables",ir you dont repaired quickly your laptop or desktop eventually will not boot the windows att all, this have to be kill before that happens, First of all clean your pc with Trojan Remover and then do just a simple task restart your desktop or laptop and do not let it initiate windows just press F2 at the bios and go to the Bios program and then go to the tab name Bios and press F9 that means "default bios systems" and everything will change in your bios and when your desktop or pc restart it will never show that message again and your bios will initiate with no problems and the virus that put that into your pc will no longer control your bios system.
