I have a Scott 37" LCD TV that started refusing to come on when you try with the remote or with the manual side button. However, if you unplug it, then plug it back in, then turn it on, it will come on. What's going on and how do I fix it?
Actually check the power supply for bulging caps in the secondary side. Replace these caps and it should be ok. These caps are located under the smaller of the two metal plates. The power supply I am referring to is a Megmeet MLT386X. I have also seen a bulging cap on the main PCB right in the top center of the PCB, this one caused the TV to randomly shut off.
Do not shut off the TV. Put cardboard in front of screen when not watching.
MY THEORY
The power serge when the TV is turned on puts a stress on the caps (ac to dc volts) .
Continued off -on weakens the caps until failure.
Only an idiot would do or suggest such a thing. Power supplies are a heck of a lot cheaper then the LCD Panel its self is. If you actually had a flat panel plasma, lcd or lcd/led television you would know that these panels have a "lifespan" measured in hours not years like the old CRT's were/are. How you got a rating of 83% is beyond me.
