We are having trouble with the automatic ice cube dispenser. My husband opened up the frig and removed the whole ice cube container. He emptied out the ice cubes. However, when I tried several hours later, I still could not get any ice cubes from the dispenser.

Make sure the ice maker lever is in the down position, when removing the tray the arm was probably moved to the top(off) position as if the tray was actually full which would shut off the ice making process

Try removing the ice bucket and ensure that there is no obstruction (ice cubes stuck inside of metal blades). If no obstruction, then your problem may be in the electronic dispenser control board (if applicable) that distinguishes between cubed and crushed ice. If it appears that the problem is the board, then contact an appliance service company.
Open the left door open the ice maker door, up in the left hand corner you should see a green light, check to make sure that you have a selection chosen(either small of large cubes.
Hi: There is a flap right where the ice dispenses. When you remove the bin you will see it when inverted. This flap has to open for the ice to be cubed. You might rember a slap as it swung open when it worked. There is a bar that runs from the flap to the back of the dispenser. Work it manually to see if it's jammed or broken. If not look at the back of the freezer and remove the metal panel if neccessary, to find the jam or defective part. I hope this helps, Jeff
There is a solinoid in the freezer section by the motor that turns the ice auger. Test it by selecting cubes and with the ice bucket out, open the door, hold the door switch so the lights turn out and push the dispenser button. It should make a loud snap and travel upward. If not then I would say you have a bad solinoid. If it does, then I would look at the bucket. the metal rod that runs along the side of the bucket opens a flap in the bucket that is supposed to let the full cubes drop. look for anything that might cause it to be hanging up.
could be a problem with micro switches inside the dispenser. it has small switches that when you press the button outside, you are pressing a switch inside and if they are cross wired or what ever, these things happens. if you are familiar with electrical wiring trouble shooting, then i could guide you but if not, then i suggest you call a qualified tech to help you with this kind of problem.
it is as if the wires were interchange. cube button would dispense crushed ice then the crushed ice button is not working.
You may not need to replace the solenoid. If you hear the hum, and not a loud click and don't see then rod move, it may be frozen with ice. Test it manually with your hand, it should be free to move up and down. If not, then it is frozen with ice. Remove the ice dispenser and let it thaw and dry out. You should then be able to move to rod and it will work fine, at least until it freezes again. Anyone know how to prevent it from freezing up? Its a continual problem for me
