When it comes to bird cages, why is size so important?

Cage size is a very crucial element in regards to proper bird care. The tail of your bird should never touch the back or bottom of the cage when sitting on their perch. A very general rule to follow is that the width of the cage should be at least 1-1/2 times as wide as your bird's wingspan. Keep in mind that it is not just your bird(s) inhabiting the cage but you will need a perch and most likely some toys. My personal recommendation is to buy the largest cage you can afford.

Is it ok to use a color-coated bird cage?

Some manufacturers design cages with a colored finish; however I do not recommend them. Birds will eventually gnaw the finish off. If you are set on buying a powder coated bird cage then I recommend the following site - http://www.birdcagesgalore.com/bird_cages_017.htm

What's a travel bird cage?

The travel bird cage is usually a smaller version of a normal bird cage. The travel bird cage does not need to be large, nor does it need to be as durable as your bird cage. Be sure that your bird can comfortably fit in this cage for a short amount of time so that it will not become stressed.

How many ladders should I put in the cage?

It depends on the bird type and size. If it is a big parrot like African greys or macaws I would put 2-3 ladders. I also recommend having ladders and perches in the birds stand so the bird will be able to stretch their wings and do some exercise.

What type of bird stand should I get for my parrot?

The physical and mental stimulation is extremely important for parrots, so get a bird stand with climbing room, toy hooks and food bowls. As your bird climbs the branches, searches for treats and plays with toys, he will be active and experience the sense of being part of a flock.

How much time should my parrot spend on the stand before I put him back in the cage?

You should allow your bird 1-2 minimum on the bird stand and allow it to stretch their wings and play and get some aggressions out. Allow him some more time if you notice that he is nervous or impatient.
