Question about Audiovox CDM8610VM

Charging problems When going to recharge my phone, my screen flashes on and off and displays garbage characters or says "user data is being restore..." then turns off and tries to turn on again. I'm not sure if the battery is shot or if the phone is shot. It won't turn on or turn off. it just restarts and displays jibberish. I just bought this phone a month ago!

The phone has manufacturing problem... if you have a warranty, then return it to the seller for repair or replacement, it free.

Just today I had the same problem with my phone. It's not the battery. You are going to have to either take it back to where you bought it from, or get a whole new phone altogether. It's a error with the phone, not the battery.

Ok - been researching this for a year or so - Apparently this is likely to happen if you delete something on the phone like contacts or messages or apps etc. and the phone doesn't have the memory available to handle the process... there is also some data that is added or moved during the shutdown process, so even if it looks ok to go, there might actually be a problem on restart. Not quite a solution, but at least an answer... It would appear from all sources that recovery from this is not possible - I have not found anyone who successfully even reflashed it with original software.

This is my 8th 8915 which is also prone to this - and it fits exactly with the pattern of destruction. I actually was avoiding deleting items via data cable b/c someone advised me that would be bad... turns out to be just the opposite! So watch your memory limits when adding contacts and apps with this phone.

My guess is that this is applicable to the entire family of pantech pn-200,212,215,300 .utstarcom 7025/7075.audiovox 8610, 8900, 8912, 8915, 8920, etc, that were similar

Here's some suggestions from the Vtech site:

If the battery(s) has been in service for more than one year....
As a rechargeable battery gets older, its ability to hold a charge decreases. If your battery has been in service for more than twelve months, it may be a good idea to replace it.

If you are replacing the battery and you need assistance, visit our Battery Finder link. If a battery for your model is unavailable, you can search the Internet using the key words cordless phone batteries for an on-line supplier. If you prefer to purchase locally, you can look for a replacement battery at your area consumer electronics retailers. It is recommended that you take your present battery with you to insure your replacement is the correct size and has the correct plug (where applicable) and specifications (for example - 3.6v 400mAh Ni-Cd). Caution when replacing batteries
If your model takes individual cells, do not use non-rechargeable batteries. Use only the recommended rechargeable batteries as prescribed in your User's Manual.

If the battery(s) has been in service for less than one year....
If the handset shows any sign of life (any lights; characters on the display screen; sounds when keys are pressed), your handset is not dead, making it unlikely that a new battery will fix the problem. Consider the following:

Is the base unit getting power?
If your base unit is not getting power, your handset is not charging. Tip: Do not plug your Base Power Adaptor into an electrical outlet controlled by a switch (for example, a light switch on the wall or a power strip with an On/Off switch).

If your battery pack is the plug-in type, is it securely plugged into the handset?
Disconnect, and then reconnect the battery plug to ensure a good connection. In addition, make sure the battery cover is on securely.

Do you see any charge indicators on the base or handset?
Depending on your model, the handset and/or base will have indicators to let you know when the battery is charging. Check your User's Manual for details.

Remember, if the handset shows any sign of life (any lights; characters on the display screen; sounds when keys are pressed), then is not dead, making it unlikely that a new battery will fix the problem. Try the following reset procedure:

Reset your Phone
If your telephone is not operating normally, disconnect the battery(s) from the handset and disconnect power from the base. After a few minutes, connect power to the base, install the battery(s) and cradle the handset in the base to allow it to establish a link. You can now try using your phone again.

CHARACTERS ARE ILLEGIBLE ON THE DISPLAY WINDOW.

It seems the problem with display as well as to the charging unit. Display problem can be repaired only br replacing the display. And for your set, its not worth to get the display replaced. You can get the handset to your near service man to check whether the power charging unit works well.

My phone will not charge

You may need to replace the rechargeable battery for your cell phone. Rechargeable batteries do not last forever.

Without knowing the make and model of your cell phone and without knowing where you reside, I cannot direct you to a source where you can purchase a replacement battery for your cell phone.

Software of your phone is corrupted. easiest way out is to factory restore your phone....BUT THIS WILL EREASE ALLL USER DATA INCLUDING PHONE BOOK ENTRIES STORED IN THE PHONE MEMORY....However sim and memory card data will not be effected.........to do this...go to settings and select restore factory settings/full factory restore...ur phone will ask for security code....for code refer user manual..or enter code that u have previously changed.......if this fails then switch off phone,....remove battery....reinsert battery....press volume up,and Power button for about 15 seconds.........till boot mode appears and u get some text written on screen....using volume up key scroll thru the text and select erase all user data/restore....now press power button for about 2-3 seconds......process begins........restart phone.......this should solve the problem...........but if still problem persists then u will have to visit a service person who will flash ur set using special tool loke...volcano box.

My Motorola Defy will not hold a charge. Had full charge at 8:00 Am and by 2:00 PM battery was dead. No apps running or Wi-FI on. Second day in row this has happened

My flash will just not turn on. I have a casio exilim EX-Z35

At back camera, have lamp flashes orange where to indicate flash is charging and to tell image will not recorded(disable). You will can not take another flash until that lamp is stop flashing orange to indicate charging is full. in other view, please check at lcd screen have appear flash icon.

This is a common problem with flash based inputs on touch screens. Things are a bit better on version 3.0 of Android. I hope that the galaxy tab is going to be dated to this version someday.

Handspring Visor Username Deleted; How to Add on Device

To recreate your problem, I have setup the my Visor with no username, placed it in the cradle, and connected the cradle via USB port.

In this configuration, I do receive the same error message that you reported. Multiple issues can cause this error to be generated.

1. Place your Prism in the blue charging cradle. Confirm that the green charging LED is flashing or illuminated (below the power button on the Prism). If the green LED is not lit, then reposition the Prism until it is. If the green LED still doesn't illuminate then check the cradle and it's connectors for dirt and debris. Also check the copper connectors on the Prism for dirt and debris.

2. Depress the grey HotSync button on the charging cradle. The error message will appear. Press OK to clear the error display. If nothing happens when you press the grey button you need to check the copper connectors in the blue cradle and the bottom edge of the Prism for dirt and debris.

3. Check the upper right hand corner of the Prism display for the HotSync application. If any characters appear on the top line, opposite the HotSync header, then that is your username. If no characters are present, then there is no username in the PDA.

Regardless of whether there is a username in the Prism, the HotSync should still be possible. Once you successfully connect the cradle to the USB port and successfully connect to the desktop computer, a popup window will ask you to Create or Select the HotSync User.

Do you receive this popup window on the PC?

If not, your setup or connection probably has an issue.

4. Look at the Prism HotSync screen. Underneath the HotSync icon in the center of the display is a Drop Down selection. The options are
a. Direct USB/Serial
b. IR to a PC/Handheld

Since you are using the cradle, you should select option a.

Once you have confirmed this setup, you need to confirm the desktop computer setup.

5. Be sure to start the HotSync Manager Application on the desktop computer.

6. Left Click on the desktop computer HotSync Icon in the system tray, and confirm that Local USB has a checkmark beside it.

7. Depress the grey HotSync button on the charging cradle again. If the HotSync popup still does not appear on the desktop computer, left click on the HotSync icon and uncheck Local, Modem Network and Infrared and then depress the HotSync Button again.


There is a hidden method in the Prism for deleting the user name.
  • Open the Memo application on your Prism.
  • Tap New.
  • Enter the ShortCut character.
  • Enter a period '.'
  • Enter the number 5.
Whether you entered the shortcut character, period and 5 correctly or not, the characters you've entered will disappear and the memo pad will remain blank. To see if you succeeded:
  1. Depress the Grey HotSync button on the cradle
  2. Your user name appears in the upper right corner of the screen: if it's blank, then your user name has been deleted. The next time you HotSync with this device, you will be asked to create a new user name.
Note: Creating a new User name, will not affect the data stored in the Prism, other than initializing the user name.

There is a freeware application to Change the user name on the Prism, but you would need to HotSync to the desktop or beam the application from another Palm PDA to install it.
