Re: VR3718W set shuts off and comes back on by its self. ...
Two most likely areas are power supply (filter caps?) or the main board which controls almost everything---a bit like saying my car stalls---things have to be checked out.

Hi,
I have come across bad inverter boards responsible for this fault several times. Please check all the connectors of the inverter board before replacing it.
When it shuts off and the green light goes out do this:
On front of set press and hold both the menu and Input buttons (device) both at the same time and hold for at least five seconds and then release both.
This is the self check the set has.
The power light will blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks, 2 blinks, a pause and repeat it several times.
let me know what error code you get and I will tell you what it means.
I would check the energy saver settings under system preferences and see if it is set to go to sleep after a period of time. Also check the schedule button under energy settings to see if there is a scheduled sleep setup. Hope this helps
saw a similar problem w/a Samsung and eventually the Focus Transformer gave out w/a big electric pop sound and all power went out. So it's probably related to a problem with high voltage and Flyback issue. Hope that helps a little.
I bypassed the safety switch (it was bad) and vacuumed and blew out all of the dust. So far with this set, 3 years old, I have replaced the bulb twice,it exploded both times, and the color wheel which also exploded! We love the picture but the next time it goes out, it goes out to the trash and I will purchase a top of the line LED/LCD set. No moving parts!!! Samsung designed and manufactured a whole bunch of lemon sets and will not admit it. I have found several hundred complaints about their DLP sets and only a few on other brands.
I suspect that the main power supply is trying to self-destruct; what you describe could be the switching power supply struggling to stay up and running.
It isn't the cable company's problem.
FYI: Olevia has declared bankruptcy so you may not be able to get any help from them.
