Question about Oster 1.7 L Variable Temperature Electric Kettle
Our 4-week old kettle just stopped working. When we push the "on" switch it will light up, but then it immediately starts to fade in and out and the kettle won't heat up. The cover is closed all the way, it's plugged in correctly, the cord is untwisted and intact, and the kettle sits completely on the base. What's the problem and how do we fix it?
In case you are still watching this issue for a solution - I'm afraid my assessment of the company troubleshooting support and of this particular issue is that we are out of luck.
I have the same problem. Have downloaded manuals - very little information except for use...ie, don't get them wet.
I have contacted the company - they asked me for the same information I gave them in the original troubleshooting request...
We bought a new one - fortunately on sale at Target. The blinking light is the normal indication - lack of heat and boiling is the problem.
Our new pot boils on both bases...old pot clicks and then just sits there with a blinking light - the light should blink until the temp is reached.
I intend to return the old pot to Target and move on....I suspect there is a burned out coil but, it is too hard to troubleshoot and won't be able to be fixed.
I suspect that a better (more expensive) pot might have more durable coils...but, we'll see how long the new one lasts.

I have same problem, Chinese Junk. Also the rim of the pot is corroded as are the rust spots on the bottom of the pot.

Happened to mine. Did some wire checking, seems the thermal fuse passed... http://p.globalsources.com/IMAGES/PDT/SPEC/363/K1004282363.pdf
Rated for 192 degrees (BF192).

This has happened to me twice. I love this kettle. First time I went through trouble shooting and tried to replace with customer support. Ended up just exchanging at Target. Now for second time it happened (both were after having it for a few months) I just went straight to Target to exchange. Did not deal directly with Oster. Found this to be the quickest solution... now I am on my third kettle within one year. Not sure why it stops working. Whole family uses, and love that we can control the temperature setting for tea.
