You can download a user manual here. Your problem, however, does not seem to be related to the camera, but to the SD card. Take the card out and look along the edge for a small 'switch'. This switch will have a 'locked' and an 'unlocked' position. Make sure it is 'unlocked'. If you still get the advisory, try another SD card. (Sometimes those little 'switches' fail.)

My Canon ZR-40 Mini DV Camcorder only has a blank screen when in VCR mode. Cannot use any VCR functions. When I try to record, it says 'No Card' but there is no slot for an SD card at all.

It's possible that the video head is dirty or damaged, which is preventing the camcorder from playing back tapes. You may need to clean or replace the video head. As for the "No Card" message, it may be a default message that appears when the camcorder cannot detect a tape. Check that the tape is inserted correctly and try a different tape to see if the issue persists. If the problem continues, it may be a more serious issue with the camcorder that requires professional repair.

Mini-DV tapes have a manual write-protect switch on them to prevent accidental erasure or over-recording of previous recordings. I expect this switch has been set to "save", perhaps accidentally.

Tape stuck!!

The tape is jammed. You can try to forcibly remove it your self but you may end up causing more damage to the tape carrier. Take it to a repair shop where they have the tools to remove it correctly.

Cassete willl not eject

Solutions * The most frequent cause of this type situation is not having a power source attached, or a depleted battery pack. * Once the power source is available, some models require manually unlatching and opening a cover. * When the cover is fully open, the cassette will eject automatically after a few seconds. * If the tape still will not eject, seek assistance from a Service Facility because you need a special tool to remove the tape without causing further damage.
