Many thanks for your help, John.
I didn't notice I had receive an answer to my question because my PC had located the message in the "unwanted" file !
    Please accept my apologies.

The serial number is : 0104123062
The manufacturing nr is : P1320305WW

In the mean time I'v called the technical service in Belgium where I was told that the only solution was to replace the fridge door !

I investigated a little bit further and I located the problem coming from the multi-wired cable going from the bottom of the fridge door to the plug soquet at the bottom of the unit.
It must be : - or a wounded wire coming in contact with the body
    - or a broken wire in the insulation, giving sometimes a bad contact.
So, I dismount the inox plinth and his support plate to give more motion room to the cable, and up to now, it seems to work ! ...

How can I locate the wire giving the trouble, if the problem occurs again ??

I believe in this case there is possibly a pin plug connector down in the location you mentioned and moisture from water possibly has leaked and caused the plug wires to corrode. Try pressing the dispenser controls as you with gloves grip the wire bundle and move around to cause you to get some type of response. I won't have much luck with a wiring diagram on models outside the USA, sorry. If it has not been removed there should be a Technical Sheet in a pouch behind the kick plate where you are going to be checking the wiring. I will try to help if I can, Thanks, JT

    Hi John,
I 've checked the plug and there is no corrosion !
I'm sure the origin of my problem is located in the 20 cm of wires going from that plug to the bottom corner of the fridge door !
There is insulation tape around the wires and probably, as I already mentionned, one of them is giving a false contact.
But as I said, now that those 25 cm are totally free and without any contact whit the body, It seems to work properly.
If the trouble succeed again, I'll come back to you !
    Thanks again.

I was hoping to find the break at the pin plug. I will be here if you need answers. Removal of the dispenser facade and pulling new wires will be next...Thanks, JT

Here is a wiring diagram of a typical Amana Side by Side Refrigerator. In the top left corner you will see the box saying Harness FZ Door and Door Hinge Click HERE to view. I'm not sure just what model number you have but this diagram will help in giving you an idea of what plug and sections of wiring you and I can assist you in locating your bad connections. Look under the top hinge plastic cover and see if connecting or try pushing the plug assembly together more firmly. If this helps please let me know and please look around your fresh food section door and send me your model number so I can point you to the correct refrigerator wiring diagrams and tech support. Thank You, Sea Breeze

I'm very sorry, but I've been out for a while... (sick)

  • schellens paul Apr 14, 2013

My fridge problem is till there, but I've located exactly where it is ! I've tried to join a picture, but I didn't succed.... I've already mentionned the multi-wired cable going from the multi-plug at the bottom of the body to the door through an hole in the right hinge. It is in that little pipe that one or more wires are broken under the insulation. It is a twisting point !

My questions are : 1 How do I dismantle that door to acceed the broken point ?? 2 Does'it exist a spare part to replace the cable ?? many thanks

You cannot dismantle the door without damage to the door. To replace the door would cost as much as replacing the refrigerator. You may be able to pull another cable through the door if you can find one in Belgium that is a replacement part if found there. Your best bet is to match the existing cable and splice the broken area if you know how. I am sorry I just have no simple solution....John Tripp

You are right ! Amana doen't exist anymore in Belgium...On internet I found the name of a fridge dealer supposed to repair existings Amana fridges. I called them, but unfortunatelly they told me that whith models having a V in the model number, it is impossible to replace the cable, my number is : SBDE 522 VW !!!

Thank you for responding this way because I really did not have a simple solution for the repair of the control wires on your refrigerator. People come here for solutions and this time there was not a simple fix. On some models there is a conduit area that allows movement and space for the cable that goes through the top or bottom of the door and then goes to the dispenser control panel. That conduit will allow movement and pulling a new cable will be possible in those cases but many refrigerators have the foam filled after the cable is in place and once done this way there is no way to replace the cable and the door can be damaged if you try to disassemble. Hopefully you can splice the broken area by soldering and insulating the repaired cable where it exits and is most likely being twisted during movement. Again Thanks John Tripp

Hello...we have a JCD2289AT that is 6 years old approx...frezer and ice maker are working fine butr refrig seems to not hear a cold temerature even after setting to the coldest setting. I pulled the unit...

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

The door seems to be warped or tweaked in some way

Your fridge is not level. If you level it you will find that the door was fine , it was the fridge that was tweaked because it was not level and sitting correctly. Use a level, shims, and/or the adjustment screws on the bottom.

its quite possible, that "the box with thermostat and small door fix on chanel for regulating cold air from freezer in fridge side", is not the problem, there can be a few diff problems, the fan in the freezer may n ot be blowing the air over, you may have a bad defrost thermostat, preventing proper defrost cycles and building up with ice preventing proper air flow. i would look into a little more before condemning the part your lookin at( damper control)
