Hi...hoping someone can help. I have had my Acer Travelmate for almost 2 years now and it was working fine until recently. There are two problems: 1) The sound for the left and right speakers only comes out of the right speaker. You can hear the left coming out of the right speaker as well but for whatever reason it won't come out the left speaker. I have tried downloading updated Realtek Audio drivers for it but that does not help. 2) The second issue is the laptop now shuts itself off after being used anywhere from a few minutes and if am lucky up to a few hours. I was wondering if it is a problem with the battery having to be changed since it has been used for almost two years or if it is another problem entirely. If anyone can help me, especially with the second issue, please respond ASAP. Thanks.
1) For sounds, you can check the sound properties and see if the balance is set right for the left and the right speaker. Alternately, move the balance to the left and see if you hear anything 2) There can be lots of reasons why the laptop would shutdown automatically. Does it shutdown or would just turn off without a proper shutdown. It can be due to some device - especially the processor getting heated or some device is not getting enough power for the system to remain up. Please revert back with further observations.

1) Seems like the left speaker is not working. Might be due to a loose connection or the speaker damaged beyond repair.
2) The symptoms we have gives us th following conclusions:
- The processor overheats if the fan is not working. You can check if the fan is working by just putting yr hand on the vent and see if you can feel any air coming out.
- If the fan is working, we the RAM might be faulty
3) You can also try the following
- Turn on the laptop with all the external devices disconnected (any USB devices or PCMCIA cards or any ethernet cables), expect the power adapter. This would help us check if its due to any external device
- Start the computer in Safe Mode and lets see what happens
Please revert back if we have any other observations.
Good Luck

Hi...please see the appropriate responses below
1) The sound properties are all balanced when I go to Control Panel. Still nothing is happening for the left speaker however. I am wondering if maybe it is an XP configuration issue.
2)Yes the laptop will shut off without a proper shutdown. The way devices automatically shut off when there is a power outtage is exactly how it shuts down without giving any warning.
If it is the processor getting heated is there anything I can buy to cool it? Perhaps I can purchase that along with a new Li-Ion battery and that will stop the problem. What do you think?
