Ricoh IS420 is seen by the computer but get an error message saying check the cables which are in fact plugged in--is there some other setting I might be missing or can you help
I moved scanner and now can't get it to work.
when I first got the scanner long ago was told that I had to turn on the scanner first and then the computer. So I am doing that-- although never understood why that was.
I am running windows xp
I downloaded driver (z03881en) and pixutil--that is what showing the error message saying to check the cable for Ricoh is420 version 1.145.12 (-4536
I no longer have an operating manual so have no idea is there are other settings that might need adjustment. There are two places in the back of the scanner to plug in the cable--had just a cover for one of those--can't remember which one I plugged the cable into since moving
The scanner seems to be working fine in that if I put a document in there it responds like it normally would to position the paper to start the scan
also was previously scanning through adobe but it isn't seeing a scanner -- and computer doesn't show one installed when I go to control panel.
I can't add a device through the wizard because the scanner isn't listed and I have no CD for the scanner--never had one.

Please : - Check your ricoh driver on your PC ( you must have the driver installed at your PC) - Check PC - printer cable connection ( It must connnected securely) - Set your ricoh printer as default printer on PC ( Go to control panel, click printer, right click ricoh and choose default printer).
You were able to scan okay before? If you can print but not scan, generally it's a firewall or permission problem. You could try creating an exception for the Ricoh in your firewall software.
The folder that you scan to hasn't moved, has it? Is the path still exactly the same? Try turning off your firewall and/or anti-virus software and see if you can scan then.
Dear David,
I bought a second hand IS420 on ebay, and bought a service manual at: www.electronicsrepair.net/scan.shtml
See #86
You can buy it for $10.
Good luck,
