I took my Samsung s750 digital camera camping one weekend...was trying out some of the "fun" features after which the auto focus stopped working properly. Every time I turn the camera on, it boots up out of focus. I figured I had changed some critical settings so I tried resetting everything back to default values. Nothing seems to work. Am I overlooking something or is the camera in need of repair? Please help!George from Calgary

I just encountered the same problem. The advice giver who forced the focus ring with autofocus engaged was right on the mark. (Thanks!) Actually, I didn't need to force it, just gave it a firm push. Voila!

First try pressing the "DISP" button. If that doesn't work, try downloading a picture. Is the picture also black? If so,
it's probably a defective CCD imager. Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

I have a Nikon D-40 that will not take pictures in Autofocus mode without holding the AE-L/AF-L button. When in Auto mode, the lens focuses, I get the green infocus dot, but the shutter will not fire. I have done a soft reset (Custom Menu) and a hard reset (reset button next to USB port). Same issue. Firmware is A 1.12 B 1.00 . Manual mode works fine. Any ideas?
