most likely failure of module in the tv, most likely fuse, capacitor, something burn up, find the air vents smell the area your smelling something burn up smell, if you have every smell electronic stuff burning up you will understand what i mean you will never forget that smell.
yes bulbs dont smell unless they pop plus its 3 bulbs in there, plus the tv would still have power/standby lights, and it's not that type of smell, replace the bulb but im sure this will not fix the problem, also my experience with dlp set it is often not worth repair, good luck you need more help or question just ask good luck
This problem usually happens when the lamp runs out, verify how old is your TV, lamps have a life spend of aprox. 3 years, most likely you would have to replace the bulb so your TV can start running again!!
Any set is repairable. It is the question of the cost and the availability of replacement parts.
It sounds like a component overheated and blew. Most likely there will be collateral damage where other components will also be damaged.
The failure could be in the power supply, or in any of the main drive circuits in the set.
You will have to call for a service estimate. In considering the age of this set, my preference would be to go out and get a descent LCD or Plasma set. The picture quality and performance of these new sets are far superior to the one you have!
I have a HD56W58 and it had the same problem. One day the picture went blank and then it made a loud popping sound and smelled like something burning. Now it will not turn on. Has this happened to anyone else? I
Do yo have the remote? Do you have the manual? Manuals are usually available online.
If you are feeding the Toshiba with cable wiring then the problem is with the Toshiba. Maybe something as simple as the wrong input is selected on the remote control. If you are feeding the Toshiba with audio and video cables then the input to the Toshiba would be suspect. Either cabling (the inputs and outputs are plugged in wrong. If you changed anything I would retrace your steps.
