We have a Sharp Model R-1481 Carosel Microwave. The latch on the door does not catch, and as a result, the oven does not operate. The "hooks" simply move up and down, no resistance. I cannot find screws or any obvious way to open the door to see what is within and what might be wrong with the latch mechanism. Any ideas?
We have
the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our
site here to help you.

If
you gently push up on the door latch heads (hook-like devices sticking out of the door)
there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring
is off inside.
Normally the problem is
not the spring, but a broken
spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner
door panel.
If it's the door panel,
it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware
to fashion a new spring mount.
The door latch head
(hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.
Normally
you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo)
and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.
Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that
demonstrates how it's done.

How do I attached the spring.
Door catches.
One of the latches may be damaged or
misaligned and is not lifting the other latch clear of the housing.
Remove from any power source, remove the cover of the cabinet.
Slacken off the clamp mechanism and ease the clamp over the guide to
allow the door to open. When the door levers are in place, the door
may be easily adjusted by slackening off the screws that clamp the
door catch/actuators in place whilst holding the door closed and then
tightening the screws. The rear of the door may be adjusted by
slackening the lower door hinge screws and adjusting as required.
I
hope that helps.
