Question about Texas Instruments TI-85 Calculator

1 Answer

TI-85 When I turn on the calculator, there is a line dividing the screen on the right hand side from top to bottom. On the same line, I can not see the number entered. What can I do to solve this problem or do I need to take it to a tech. If I do, where can I take it to? Thank you, Lourdez

I can't turn my ti 85 on

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

I have the TI Nspire and cant seem to get the right answer for ln2 divided by 4 ln 1.0125. I guess I dont know how to input it, because I tried another problem that I had the answer for and entered it in...

Sorry, it may be too late for your exam, but here is the answer.
You should enclose the 4ln(1.0125) in parentheses otherwise the calculator will interpret your expression as ln(2)/4 times ln(1.0125).
Here is screen capture that shows you how it is interpreted.
On the top line you have ln(2)/(4*ln(1.0125)), on the middle line ln(2)/4*ln(1.0125), and on the bottom line you have 0.25*ln(2)/ln(1.0125).

TI 84 plus calculator, flashing dot in upper left hand corner

Hello,

When you turn the calculator on, its screen is cleared, save for a small square on the top left corner. This is the cursor and it is blinking: The calculator is waiting for you to order it to perform some calculation.

Try this simple operation
[1] [+] [1] [ENTER]. The calculator will display the result one line down justified to the right.

Hope it helps.

Texas Instruments TI-85 Display Problem

You need a good screwdricer and skilled hands and an experienced friend for directions. Remove the batteries and the small backup battery. Remove the two other screws on the outside. Open it up and remove the metal shield. There should be a ribbon cable connected to the screen. IF YOU SCREW THIS UP, YOU SCREW UP THE CALCULATOR. take the screwdrivr and gently lift up on the top of the connecter on the board. push the cable in with very little force. it may snap into place. Push down on the cable fastener and it should hold the cable in place. Put the shield back on, replace the batteries, screw in the screws, and try to turn it on. You did something terribly wrong and need to reseat it again. if it works, well done! (clap clap)
