Question about Sony DW-Q28A (DW28Q) DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner
Hi everyone and thanks in advance . I'm new here and i need help to fix a friend's of mine computer who is even worse than i am with computers! The problem is that my dvd burner can write cds but can't burns dvds.It used to work fine but suddenly a few months ago it just stopped burning dvds. the pc is running windows xp pro (version 2002) SP2 Intel pentium 4, 3.2 ghz, 512 Ram ... In case it helps , i checked the filters , but i stopped there, didn't try to turn them off or something since i'm a rookie and don't want to cause more damage to it. Anyway , i give you the review of the filters test. The Upper Filters are: GEARAspiWDM The Lower Filters are: PxHelp20 AnyDVD cdrbsdrv ElbyDelay As i mentioned , a few months ago everything was running smoothly but then this problem occured. And to be honest , i don't know the changes my buddy made in order to imagine what caused the problem. ( he has no idea either ) I would like to thank you in advance. Any help will be much appretiated. Ps : sorry for my english!!!
It may be a dual laser type burner and the dvd laser has faulted, you can try using a cd/dvd cleaner to clean the laser. Otherwise try:- Go to my computer>properties>hardware>device manager and look down the list for your cd/dvd drives and click the '+' sign then highlight your dvd drive and right click to delete. Restart the pc and windows will find the drive again automatically and install the drivers

First of all, thank you for your quick reply. I tried the second part of your solution, unistalling the driver and then restarting the pc but i didn't work . As for the cleaner stuff, i will try that next week , but the thing is that the driver burns cds but not dvds. Anyway , i will give it a go and see what's going on . Thanks again for your help and happy easter.
