I purchased the Gas Kitchen KGRT 607HS8 back in Autumn 2001. After some issues with the oven not working, the store(SEARS) changed it and gave us a new one ( we were not told what went wrong) in Summner 2002. For the past 4 and a half years,it was working perfectly until last Christmas when I noticed that sometimes when I turn on the oven, it does not heat up. So instead of cleaning it every month, I clean it every 2/3 weeks depending on whether I have been roasting meat or not and after I have experienced that the oven does not come on after I turned it on. Last night I experineced the same occurence, turn on the oven, wait for it to reach the temp but it remained cold and I could smell gas. I cancelled the whole thing and restarted the oven and I managed to get a hot oven. This morning I started the cleaning cycle ( 3.5hours) . After 45 mins, I heard a beep and i saw that the cycle has stopped and there was F5:E5 on the display. I restarted the cycle again and i could smell the gas. The cleaning cycle stopped again after 45/50 mins. I went through the whole procedure of restarting the cleaning cycle twice but I gave up when I heard the beep and saw the F5:E5 display ( and nothing was cleaning inside ). Would appreciate if someone can explain to me why this is happening before I call the serviceman from Sears. Thank you in anticipation

Re: oven section not working
Beaver, the F5-E5 is the code for self clean temp not achieved after 30 minutes. This makes sense since you are having trouble pre-heating your oven on regular bake. I believe your ignitor is not drawing enough amps to open the gas valve all the way. Sometimes these can be erratic, work sometimes, sometimes won't. Your part number for the oven ignitor is 9782065. If this is a brand new oven then you need to call the store back & have them come check it. It will be under warranty & they can check to see if it is a stove problem or a power problem from your house power. If it is a used appliance, I would still call the store you purchased it from to see what they can do for you.
replace the oven safety sensor located in the upper left corner of the oven cavity, its merely a thermocouple and cycles the temp in the oven and is easily replaceable, its a whirlpool part # AP3083985 available from most appliance parts stores that handle whirlpool parts,as this unit is produced by whirlpool corp. for kitchenaid corp.
Typically, if there is no LCD display, the oven gas knob has the adjustments on the back of it. Just back off the screw and adjust it 10 degrees at a time, using an oven thermometer to verify accuracy.
There is no reset button. First, unplug the range, and plug it back in after 5 minutes. That MAY reset the control, if not, the control will need to be replaced. If the range is less than a year old, it should be covered by the factory warranty (unless it was purchased a Sears store).
It is likely that the ignitor needs to be replaced. If the range does not sense the proper amount of resistance in the ignitor, it will not turn on the gas valve for the lower burner. If the broiler is still working, it would further this thinking, as it has a separate ignitor.
Will need to find the correct model # somewhere on the range then go to www.appliancepartspros.com or www.www3.sears.com and you will find it there. I found thermostats on those sites for a model # close to yours and most likely the same one. Sears was about $72 and appliancepartspros was about $78. Hopes this helps.
