Download HTC Sync and install it on your PC. It enables synchronization of Outlook contacts and calendar, as well as your media files (music, video). Prior to connecting your phone to your PC through a USB cable, on your phone, go to 'Menu > Settings > Applications > Development', and make sure you select 'USB debugging'. At the moment you connect your phone, you will be prompted to chose the USB connection type. Select 'HTC Sync'. Hope it works for you. Anyway, please, let me know if you need further informations. Hello, have you downloaded the most recent version of HTC Sync from their website? Does your laptop recognise your phone when you plug it in? Does the charging light indicator light up on your phone when you plug it into the laptop? When you get the connection menu on the phone (IF you get it) are you selecting 'HTC Sync'? Does HTC Sync start on the laptop? Are you selecting each category and telling it to sync, say, your pictures, music etc, then clicking Sync Now?
Your solution ==============================================
Setting up HTC Sync to recognize your phone
After installing, set up HTC Sync to recognize your phone.
1. From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings > Accounts & sync.
2. On the Connect to PC screen on your phone, tap HTC Sync and then tap Done. Your phone attempts to find HTC Sync on your computer. Wait for a few seconds for the process to finish.
3. If your phone displays a message indicating that it's unable to find HTC Sync, try disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable, and then repeat step 2.
4. When the Phone Connection Wizard is displayed on your computer, click Next. Enter the name you want for your phone, and then click Finish.
Check the HTC Sync icon at the bottom-right side of your computer screen. If it appears green in color, that means your phone has successfully connected with your computer and HTC Sync recognizes your phone
Unplug the phone from the PC, restart both the phone and the PC. When the PC is done booting, plug your phone in and see if the autorun box pops up.

still if nogo try this .
you have to select disk drive (when plugged in via notification area) to be able to view the drive in windows and htc sync to use htc sync.
=====================================
Once you plug the photo into your computer, open the notification bar on your screen. Click where it shows "Charge Only". Then you should be presented with the option to choose various options, such as "Charge Only", "HTC Sync", "Disk Drive", "Internet Sharing".
Disk drive is the option you wish to use if you wish to put files on or pull files from the phone/sd card.
HTC Sync is what you wish to use if you want to sync data.
Plug phone into pc. It should recognize the evo as a disk drive. Select disk drive if prompted by evo. On pc hit the menu button. Go to Computer then find drive (evo) . I don't know what letter it will be. Then once in correct drive, navigate through your sd card until you find the htc sync file. Drag it over to your pc and run it. After program is installed you should have no problem connecting it.
You can also go here http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/ and download it from the Htc site.
You can also Power off evo and remove MicroSD card. Place it in the appropriat adapter for usb and find the Htc Sync file that way.
Before you run the ROM Update Utility (RUU), make sure you have done the following:
Backed up the data on your device.
Standby or hibernation mode of your PC has been disabled.
Close all running applications on the PC.
Set aside approximately 25 minutes to allow the device to update.
Charged the battery to at least 30%.
Download HTC Sync for Android.
Install the HTC Sync software on your PC if it is not already installed. This software was included in your HTC Hero gift box. The minimum required HTC Sync version is 2.0.28. We have HTC Sync for Android 2.0.40 available for download; newer versions might be available from www.htc.com.
If the HTC Sync application appears on the screen of your PC, you may simply dismiss the wizard by pressing the Cancel button.
Run the Hero 2.1 MR Upgrade RUU file.
Follow the on-screen prompts to install the update for your HTC Hero
WARNING: During the upgrade process, do not attempt to make/receive calls, press any buttons on your device or disconnect the device from the USB cable as this will stop the update and your device may be rendered inoperable!
If you have a problem with the connection between your device and PC be sure to check the connection type in your device. This can be done in the device via Settings -> Connect to PC. Ensure that HTC Sync is selected.
