The most effective way to keep your gravel clean is by using gravel cleaner. I suggest investing in a heavy duty syphon-powered cleaner and use it once a week to help keep your tank clean.

What kind of maintenance should I be concerned with in regards to aquarium substrates/gravel?

If you buy a good quality substrate you will not need to concern yourself too much with constant maintenance. Vacuuming the gravel once a week will be more than enough to sustain a clean and fresh looking tank.

How to clean the gravel in your fish tank?

In order to properly clean your aquarium you should follow the next step by step manual.

• You should fill half a bucket with dirty fish tank water. Then fill the rest with clean tap water. Then you should mix them together, the new and the dirty water so there will be no injure to the fish by drastically changing the water.

• Place your fish in the bucket.

• Unplug the aquarium and the aquarium equipment from the electricity.

• Drain the tank completely.

• Take two cupful of dirty gravel and put it aside. Since cleaning gravel with tap water will destroy most of the waste eating bacteria, it is necessary to save some gravel with bacteria for later on.

• Take the rest of the gravel and put it into two buckets.

• Place a garden hose into one bucket and turn the faucet on full blast. Frequently rinse and stir the gravel until the water in the bucket gets clean.

• Repeat the process with the second bucket.

• Clean the aquarium tank with hot tap water without using any soap or cleaning materials. Clean the internal parts of the aquarium and then wipe the insides with a paper towel.

• Put all the gravel back inside the tank in addition with the rest of the dirty gravel.

• Refill the tank with clean cold tap water. Make sure you add a de-chlorinating agent to the tap water.

• Plug in all the electrical parts.

• Return all the fish to the tank.

I heard that it is good to have dirty gravel in your fish tank. Is this true?

A certain amount of gunk on your gravel is beneficial to thefish. This is because your fishnaturally create an ecosystem based on their ideal environment. Therefore, you do not want to keep your fishtank as clean as the day you bought it. It's ok if the gravel appears slimy or to have a bit of algae onit. You will know it is past time toclean the gravel when a cloudy layer appears just above it.If you want to be exact about it, you can by strips thattest the ammonia and nitrates in the water. This will indicate whether the gravel needs a cleaning.

How do I clean the gravel in my aquarium?

You have a few different options for cleaning the gravel inyour aquarium:1. 1. Remove the gravel from the aquarium and washit thoroughly in a strainer, under warm tap water. Depending on the number of fish you have, this should generally be done once every other week. Do not wash the gravel with any chemical orsubstance as this could be damaging to the fish!2. 2. Use a store bought orhomemade gravel/substrate vacuum. Thisallows you to clean the gravel without having to remove it from the tank.3. 3. Use only a thin layer of gravel on the bottomof your tank and exchange with new gravel each time it needs to be replaced.

I can't touch brakes easy enough when I'm navigating a slow speed in gravel or uneven surface, it's s'posed to have abs but the front wheel wants to plow sideways when I'm going @ walking speed

This may be a non-factory fix for pushing gravel ( other than staying out of gravel with a 700 pound street bike). With the ignition on and the engine dead, pull on the brake lever with one or two fingers just enough to make the brake light flash at 120 cycles (fast), start the engine while continuing to keep slight pressure on the lever. Keeping the lever slightly pulled will give only 15% brake capacity with no servo assist. Once out of the gravel, release the lever and when the brake light flashes at 60 cycles (slow) pull away safely and never return to the gravel. Ha!
