I may be six years too late but I had this same problem. Remote worked with everything for over 10 years. Then I moved, set everything up and all the sudden the remote controls everything except the CD player. Take the batteries out, press every button twice and replace the batteries. Sounds ridiculous but it worked for me.

How to change the volume of sony cdp-cx 153 without using the remote control?

If you can't get the unit to work without a remote and the universal remote isn't working, you can get a replacement for your Sony remote that is made for your CDP-CX153 model here:

I dont have the remote. is there a volume control on the system?

No. Volume for external sound sources is usually left up to the preamplifier or amp.

The remote is available here for under $30...

Where is the volume control as we have lost the remote

2 possible solutions:

Purchase a new remote (I have these in stock)

Disconnect the remote control system and re-connect the volume control knobs on the back of the cabinet.

Email me and I'll email back my phone number so I can help you over the phone.

Arrange the volume of your jukebox without using the remote

In earlier models you plugged either the remote box OR the volume control box into the same socket on the amp. If you still have the volume control box simply plug it in where the remote is plugged in.

I also have exactly the same problem with the volume control. I was hoping to resolve the problem by doing some internal cleaning but seems like johanknopper tried it before.

I was thinking of buying a remote control separately as I lost mine in relocations. Found a second hand on-line but I am not sure if they all have the same frequency and if it works with mine.

Any Ideas?

Volume Control??

Unlike low-end hi-fi systems where you buy one box that does everything, the CD player you have is part of a component hi-fi system (i.e. you buy your CD player, tuner, amplifer etc. as separate items.) This is why there is no volume control. It needs to be connected to an amplifer. It's on the amp that you will find the volume control and where you connect the speakers. (When you connect it to your television, you are just using that amp in the TV instead.)

The CD player did originally ship with a remote control, but I don't know where you would be able to buy one on its own. You may find the the remote does allow you to alter the output level of the CD player, but you still need to connect it to a proper amp to get it to work.

Hope this helps,
