Picture smear and screen brighter on the right hand side
The TV has a bad picture, text on the screen smears and the picture as a whole has a lack of contrast and is over bright.
If you select AV with no signal the right half(ish) of the screen gets brighter the further right you go.
It is noticeable that the smeared text gets worse on the right of the screen.
I suspect a capacitor somewhere, I do not think it?s the tube as the text would smear fairly evenly across the screen, I must admit it?s been over twenty years since I used to fix TV?s and I did that only when the TV guys were over run. So I might be wrong.

OK. Great idea to try another monitor! What you forgot was to tell us the make and model. Also we need the make and model of what you're connecting the monitor to.
That said, it could be the cable and connectors: are you using an adapter to match up with a specific connector?
It could be a resolution setting on the monitor or on the video card. Both have menus for adjusting the input signals.
It sounds like your optical block has failed. If you can see the picture but it has a green smear through the picture, this is likely the problem. Sony has extended the warranty on the optical block and is covering parts and labor for the repair. Contact Sony at 800-222-SONY to schedule a tech to look at the TV and replace the optical block
