USB not saving audio. It gives CPU out of memory error.
I started having trouble with the USB a couple months ago. During the service, I heard a small "pop" and we lost the house speakers...so I went up, turned the floor monitors toward the audience so we could continue the service. After service I noticed that the USB did not record. I didn't put 2 and 2 together until the next week it did the same thing. Everything was fine until we pressed the start button to record on USB, and as soon as it began recording, we lost the house. I was still unaware until I checked the amps, etc. and then tried a few things after the service and got it to do it again.
I tried a different memory stick and that solved it. I assumed it must have been corrupt.
I bought a new memory stick, and went on with life. I made sure that there were no "programs" that came with my memory stick, but just storage 'cause I thought that might have been it.
That was a couple months ago and no problems until today. It didn't "pop", I didn't lose the mains, but it didn't record. It started to (light blinked, but it didn't begin to record. A message came on the screen to the effect that no memory stick available. I tried it after the service and the same thing, but got an error that it was low on CPU, which is the boards processing unit, not my memory stick.

I just had the same issue. The temporary fix I used worked for 2 years. I just stuck a small paper clip or safety pin in the corner of the port, and then plug the cable in. If those are too big just use something you can use to make the plug fit tight.
It finally stopped worked a couple of weeks ago, so I just bought a new USB port at an electronic store for $1.50 and soldered it on. I had to buy flux which was $3.00.
$5 and an hour of time after squeezing 2 extra years with paper clips. Priceless.
Just make sure you have a cold beer to solder with. Sticking drinks in a freezer wrapped in a wetpaper towel for 15 minutes is like a reverse microwave for beer.
This was in the manual:
Card too busy. Repeated actions of recording, writing, and deleting will gradually decrease the amount of contiguous free space on the memory card, causing files to be saved in a fragmented state during recording. This message will appear when access to the memory card has slowed down due to such problems. Back up your important files, format the memory card, and then restore your files back onto the card.
Make sure your hard-drive is not so full so that some of the drive can be used as cache. Make sure you have enough RAM memory on your motherboard. Use spynomore or Unhackme to make sure you are virus free. If this is a slower older computer you may still have trouble. It's best to always give specs for this type of question... cpu speed, what operating system 64 bit vs 32 bit etc.
I have the same problem except mine worked out of the blue then stop after a minute whilst mixing, m-audio/avid are no help what so ever, as they want me to pay to speak to a support advisor.
First thing... make sure you are using the KA320 power adapter with it. We will work from there.
The unit probably is sensing an error of some type. Check these things: That NO key or button is STUCK down. Next, one could try reseating the memory sticks if you have expanded memory.
Let me know if you find a button or key is stuck down (not uncommon when unit has been wrapped) or you are using the wrong power adapter.
Kill all spyware and anti-virus programs and internet connections and wireless WHILE doing audio work. ALL these resource HOGS **** time from your processor and cause overuns of the buffers in your audio interface.
Do a control-alt-del to bring up the Windows task manager and look at what processes are running and sucking processing time. Even things that check for updates sit there and periodically grab processing power.
When burning CD's the same goes as well... during burns, the processor needs to be purged of these interrupting resource hogs.
In the last three weeks I have been continuously hit with updates from Adobe, MS, and Sun (Java) that interrupt and **** time, often at the most inappropriate times. These continous scanners for updates MAY be what are hitting you. Do any updates and then kill and disallow updates while doing your audio work.
Where do you see the error about USB, on the Axiom display or on your computer? Can you give me the exact error?
Is the Axiom connected directly into the computer or into a USB hub?
(My Axiom 49 only works connected directly)
Try restarting both the computer AND the Axiom with ONLY the Axiom plugged in.
I would look for either corruption of the file you loaded or attempted to save or if it might be too big to store in the unit.
It might be the memory card was not properly formatted for the machine.
A real problem is those who try to use a memory card that is bigger than the machine allows. MANY of them allow ONLY a 2 GB card maximum. If one tries to use a larger the units will freeze. Check that your card is listed as compatible as many, even the correct size, are not fully compatible.
I have the 24fx version of this and have noted the same problem. The solution seems to be turning off the feedback ferret as this uses around 30% of the CPU because it is running all the time! When the desk is booted up check the CPU usage before you turn on any of the digital fx. should show around 35% usage. Turn off the old ferret and hey presto, down to around 12% This should give you enough CPU to record direct to memory stick. Not the best design I know, but a really good sound engineer shouldnt need the feedback ferret anyway ;-)
