Just installed new Chamberlain motor but makes loud snap when door opens and closes about 3 inches from ground?

I just installed a new motor unit only - the belt and trolley are from the original set. When I tested the unit, it makes a loud snapping sound when the door first opens and the motor unit moves so it must be catching on something? It then opens ok, but makes that same loud noise when the door closes to about 3 inches from the ground.

Do you have a security system in your home? Sometimes the door shut sensors get out of alignment and the door strikes the sensor. This is the exact same problem I had with my door.

SOURCE: Hi there. I have a Chamberlain Whisper Drive

I just had that problem this morning and the cause was that the springs that help hold the weight of the garage door were broken. This caused the garage door opener to raise the garage door a fe inches and then drop again. We called in a professional and $200 later we had new springs and everything works fine now.

SOURCE: door would not close all the way

DOES IT REVERSE OR STOPS BUT NOT TOUCHING THE FLOOR?

IF IT DOESN'T TOUCH THE FLOOR YOU EITHER NEED TO ADJUST THE DOWN TRAVEL OR LENGTHEN THE CONNECTING ARM.

IF IT REVERSES YOU NEED TO DETERMINE IF IT IS THE SENSITIVITY OR THE SAFETY EYES.

SOURCE: chamberlain silent 3/4 hp red led on side and hear

This beeping is actually the battery back up unit making this sound. It either means there is no power to the outlet and it is using stand by power or that something is wrong and the battery is not charging correctly or will not take a charge. You can order replacement parts at chamberlain.com. Thanks BB

SOURCE: The belt on my Chamberlain Whisper Drive dipping

Where the belt attaches to the trolley carriage which attaches to the door there is a black adjustment nut with a spring on it. Tighten it up more by turning it clockwise until the belt tightens up. The belt will droop a little when the door is all the way shut normally but should not during operation. If you tighten it up too much the belt will slap on the rail during operation. Make sure the spring is set on the adjustment screw too. This holds the belt tight over time. Thanks BB

SOURCE: Chamberlain hd900d garage door opener

You will have to open the unit and look inside it. Unplug it first. It should have 6-8 screws to take off. You will see 3 white plastic adjustment screws. There is a carriage they sit in. Make sure they are in this carriage. If you would like stay back a bit and plug it in and watch it run to see how it works. It is a direct contact system, so when the middle screw touches the copper limit of the limit screw it stops. Thanks BB

Garage door stuck in the down position then 2-3 inches off the ground

Check for broken door springs or remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is white nylon and will be obvious if it is bad.

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. Also check the door springs. One of them could be broken.

My door closes fine, but when opening, it only

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and may be stripped. If so you will also find what looks like white sawdust inside the motor unit.

Is the door stuck in the open position? If so the trolley is probably jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. Loosen the chain enough to free the trolley and then run the opener until the door is closed. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' on the side of the motor unit and turn this control 2 complete turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

Chamberlain 1265 garage door opener, tried to

On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit control'. Using a small screwdriver turn this control in the same direction as the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking may be necessary to get it just right.

Installed new PD432D opener from Home Depot. Inadvertently ran motor before connecting rail and screw drive. After connecting, I cannot get upper limit adjustment to bring rack all the way to full open...

You have to set the limit adjustments to the factory settings and then make sure the trolley placement is in the up position and install from there. You can't do this by simply adjusting the limits. This might be a case when you hire an installer. 100.00 dollars should do it, depending on the market. Thanks BB
