Question about Yamaha Electrical Supplies
Pop's and coughs when put under a load. Even just shutting the ECONO switch off so the engine will rev up. Carb completely rebuilt. If I put under a load or shut the econo switch off while holding the governor arm and slowly release the governor arm it will run fine. But if the governor arm moves quickly, it starts to cough and pop like the timing were off on an old chevy V8. Should the vaccum break release slowly?
Sound like you've done things in the correct order, tecumseh's are notorious for carb problems if you let as sit in them. Backfiring is timing related (flywheel key) or valve problems. I would take a closer look at the exhaust valve I don't believe it is closing all the way.

What you need to know is there enough fuel going to the regulator. It should be 7 to 11 inches Water Column. If not your problem may be not enough fuel. That includes when the heater in your house kicks on and what ever gas appliance you may have. Once you verify that you need to figure out if you have the proper pressure coming out of the regular on the inside of the generator. Next I would look at compression of the cylinders. It may need new piston rings.
