A typical day for this television to work goes this way. Whent I turn on this tv the picture is fine for about one hour, the the picture is gone and you have black and white lines running up on the screen. My method of having the picture back on is to turn the tv on and off about seven times. once I do that, the picture comes back to normal and the cycle starts all over again(it happens even faster when I turn the channel too much). can you help?

The controller board for the screen is going bad. check shopjimmy.com for replacement parts. It's not a difficult job to do. Once the back of the TV is removed, you'll see it near the center of the screen.
The TV, most probably, the display circuit or the display itself has developed dry solder/components leaking and the TV needs attention by a qualified service technician.
This model series had a odd problem that caused this. It was the Hoizonal wire connctors for the yoke. If my memory serves me right, the Yoke wire harness went from Yoke to Yoke and plugged in at the casing of each yoke. What I found is the solder connection on the small board of each Yoke was intermitent. Please be careful if you choose to tackle this. It is in a HV Area.
Hope this helps,

Like most problems with this model, check and re-solder the connections
on the power supply board on the right rear of the tv, just behind
where the main power cord goes in. Most problems are around the upper
left corner where the white connectors E-12 and others. Check all of
them from loose and cold solder solder connections on the board. Hope
this helps.
It sounds like your rptv lamp is going out. If this is an older DLP this is most likely the cause. You can get a replacement at www.laptopsforless.com part number BP96-00224J for $151. If the tv is still under warranty, I would have them do it, otherwise replace it yourself. If so here is a link to give you step by step instruction. Please give me a good rating. ;-)
