Question about Behringer PMP1680S Europower 10-Channel Powered Mixer (1600 Watts)

Monitors not audible with Behringer 1680S

I have a Powered Mixer. How do I hook up monitors in stereo mode (not bridge mode)? Even with volume turned on monitor volume and monitor channels it is not audible. The volume is on but there is no sound. The main is working fine and everything else functions correctly.

I beleive in stereo mode the monitors should power from the 1/4 jack monitor out and both outputs in the back for speakon cables should be used for main speakers. I do not understand your response

  • Darren Stagg Aug 27, 2012

Close...... In Stereo mode, the rear output jacks provide "power" for the mains only.... In this mode the monitor out would be a line level out that would need to be fed to an external monitor amp. Is that would you have done but not getting signal to the external amp?

  • Darren Stagg Aug 27, 2012

Sorry...typo....that was supposed to ask if that's "what" you have done.

  • Boe Simeonov Aug 27, 2012

    1) So in stereo mode, I need a seperate monitor amp or powered monitor for the monitor 1/4 jack output in the front of the unit? 2) If I do this in mono you're saying is the only way for the powered mixer to provide power to monitors (which out do I use. Front monitor jack in this case or speakon out in the back?) how would that work?

  • Darren Stagg Aug 27, 2012

You are correct - each Speakon jack is connected to an internal amplifier. The amp switch determines what is feeding each amp. In Stereo mode, you have L and R power for mains. In the middle position (mono + monitor) the A amp powers the monitors, and the B Amp powers the mains. The controls for main, and monitors (sends and master) behave the same either way. If using stereo mode, monitors would be fed from that 1/4 inch monitor send and powered by an external amplifier or powered monitors.

Assuming you're trying to power the monitors from this unit as well as the mains.....Confirm that the amp switch is in the middle position which splits the internal amps....one for main and one for monitors. Output A would power the monitors.... B would power the mains.

Without knowing how you have your monitors configured it is hard to analyze what you have posted.

In brief, SW3 on the schematic that selects MAIN L and MAIN R in the upper position, MAIN and MONITOR in the middle, and bridged in the lower is used to configure the internal amps.

In the upper position, the amp power outputs come from the mixed stereo bus and are simultaneously controlled as a stereo signal by the MAIN slider.

In the middle position MAIN and MONITOR, the left amp receives the signal from the mix bus and is controlled by the MAIN slider. The MONITOR output from the other side of the power amp is controlled ONLY by possibly the "MONO" slider.

The schematics are hard to decode and what is needed is a signal flow diagram.

For my uses, I don't try to use splitting the power amps between mains and monitor but prefer to use the mains together with SW3 in the upper position (Note your 27 may be refering to the user manual designation for same switch). I then use another small amp from the 1/4 inch MONITOR jacks whcih are under control of the MONITOR sliders.
Please note that the MIX for these two MONITOR channels is controlled by the MON1 and MON2 knobs for each channel.

With the AB switch at the center position Mon1/Main you control the volumes INDIVIDUALLY with the MON pot for each input that is a couple positions above each of the input sliders.

Thought I answered this. Using balanced TRS cables, connect the powered speakers to the Main L and R 1/4 inch jacks on the top of the unit.

OK... from the schematics it appears that when in mon1/mono mode you use ONLY the MON1 gain controls, including the channel MON1's and the MON1 slider. Make sure you have each of those turned up as needed. In this mode, MON2,s and the MON2 slider are unused. The MONO slider controls the MAIN output.

As opposed to front of house? If you want separate amplification of a monitor system then use either the aux send channels or sub-channel outputs or control room outputs (but check these are not amplified already) connected to a separate amplifier to power your passive monitors

Make sure that you have enable the main monitor volume at the end of the mixer. They are labeled AUX1 and AUX2 as well located under the last channel of the mixer. If those are on 0 your monitors won't work

How to connect floor monitor to mixer

You need to connect the speakers using an XLR cable into the Main output jack on the back of the mixer. If they are powered speakers you will need to connect them into a power source and turn them on AFTER connecting them. Once powered on you can control the signal going to the mixer with the Main Mix fader.

  1. Turn mixer on
  2. Ensure Main Mix level is at zero
  3. Connect from Main Output to Monitors
  4. Turn Monitors on
  5. Turn up Main mix to desired level

We set up the monitors in our pmp 6000 at the mon send jacks but we didn't get any sound from it when we turned up the monitor volumes. What is the proper way to set them up?

I HOPE you know that the monitor send jacks are NOT powered. You MUST use either powered monitors or an external amp for these to drive speakers. Assuming you have done that, you have to turn up one or both of the monitor knobs for each channel you wish to send to the monitors at the desired level. Then you advance the monitor faders for the overall monitor level.

DO NOT connect your in-ear monitors to the power amp out using the MAIN/Mon speaker option as it would be goodbye hearing and fried ear buds..
Get a very small and in-expensive headphone amp and connect its input to the 1/4 inch Monitor output jack.

How do i hook up my jbl-jrx112m monitors to my pmp6000 so i can control sound volume,i have sound but only main control not monitors

You have to make a choice... you can tie two main speakers to the "B" channel and the two monitor speakers to the "A" channel.
The speaker configuration slide switch is set to MON1/MONO. The main slider controls the volume of the mains and the MON1 slider controls the level of the monitors in conjuction with the rotary MON1 knobs for each channel.
Each output should not be loaded heavier than 4 ohms. This would be a max of two 8 ohm speakers for each output.

Please read a tip I just posted regarding a hazard of the Speakon to 1/4 inch cables when used with these PMP mixers.

If you are using your main speakers as stereo, then you will need either powered monitor speakers OR an additional seperate amp for them. The mon outputs on the mixer are LINE LEVEL and are not driven by a power amp. Use TRS (balanced) interconnect cables from these to POWERED monitor speakers.

You can parallel your two mains providing the parallel impedance is 4 ohms or greater (two 8 ohms in parallel at most). The the monitor speakers can be paralleled and the switch set to Main/Mon so that one side of the power amp drives the mains and the other drives the monitors.

To prevent damage to the mixer, make sure all speaker leads are secure before powering the system. Run the speaker leads through the handles of the speakers to prevent inadvertent unplugging due to personell tripping over cables.

DO NOT use the bridge mode in your use.
